and casual. any other comment on career path, average tenure, exit options,
etc? one thing that's different for sure is the high percentage of apds at
mck, but is it necessarily a good thing to have many people with similar
background around? any thought on that... ? |

听说BCG做到partner的时间更长些，也没有McK那么rigorous的up or out policy
这两年的业绩，好像BCG差点，很多时候比不过Bain
APD多有什么不好的？做项目的时候不会所有人都是APD的。而且经过培训的APD用起来
和MBA没什么不同

Bain, MCK or BCG recruits in your school, keep an eye out for their
receptions. Dont be shy about going to info session for undergrads because
the rep will teach valuable skills that will help you understand their
expectations in case interview.
Bearing Point and DT also has management consulting practices, easier to get
in but they favor engineering backgrounds, you can try shoot for them as
well. |

When MCK, BCG and Bain come to school, I will definitely try to get best out
of those opportunities.
There is no undergrad program in the school. But the career service people
said they will help MBA students on interview processes. I am not familiar
with their career services yet, but will try to find out more. Also hope
to learn from people here on how to make use of these services.

听到一个问题: 如何选择office location.
回答是3个准则：
1. where you wanna live
2. where you feel comfortable with the colleagues
3. Industry practice area
第一点，对于没有在美国很多地方生活过的外国人，怎么判断的出比如Chicago or
Philadelphia, or New Jersey? or LA vs. SF 哪个更喜欢？
第二点就更虚了，申请人能见到几个不同office的人? 来学校的通常都是某一个office
的.
再说就见那2,3个,而且短短时间,就能判断和谁相处融洽?
第三点大致可以作为一个依据,不过客户通常也不是找local office, 要不也用不着
经常出差了,而且同种工业领域,也是很多office都可能接.
虽然号称是任何office都一样,但是每个office招人的需求和标准还是
有细微差别的吧.
所以就只能撞大运了? |

我MBA师妹的老公，在美国McK做到Associate Partner,也是去了
大的VC firm的中国office。
VC/Banking/PE 到最后就是关系和sales的技巧。如果你耍嘴皮子能力，对于美国这边b
usiness领悟能力能和老美匹敌，你就可以考虑找美国这边的职位。当然了，如果是lev
el比较低的职位，也许有可能，但是也是极难。因为和你竞争的是美国top学校里的最t
op的白人。他们的智商，能力绝对不在你之下。那么你的语言文化能力是否能在他们之
上呢？
其实中国做VC的机会也非常非常多，如果想做VC没有必要拘泥于美国还是中国。 |

McK/BCG那么几家，就像做会计不要老盯着四大。很多别的MC firms也不差，比如Alix
Partners, REL, etc.
至于PT对改行不好，这个好像已经成为真理了，而我以前也是这种观念的坚定支持者。
但几年中我进行了很多思考，转变了我的想法：PT毕业生成功改行的不多，并不是PT
Program的错，而是大部分PT毕业生不敢take risk的天性决定的。 首先很多人都做了
PT vs. FT的选择，就这这种risk averse的反应。而我看到很多真正成功通过PT改行的
人，都有很多共性，包括1）从第一天起就知道自己要什么，2）知道自己需要做什么，
3）敢冒险。
注：知道自己需要做什么，不是指1）进一个好MBA学校；2）学校career service帮我
改好简历发给大公司；3）等人找我面试 |

interview invitation, right? I guess the chance of getting hired for the
entry-level positions would be the same for working professionals as fresh-
graduates if both get the interview invitation. Please comment.
At least I see McK is actively hiring experienced professionals in certain
areas, like operation.

some big consulting firms are well aware of top journals, rankings of
schools and programs. I once ran into a McK guy who knew the ranking of
certain engineering programs even though he himself was a MBA. Guess he
learned it from years of recruiting,just like those IBs.
to play safe, you can also "educate" them on your resume. |
