发帖数: 1073 | 4 今天去休斯顿领馆换护照了，非常顺利，半小时内搞定，很想跟大家分享一下。
休斯顿领馆的管辖范围太大了，美东南8个州都归它管，于是坐了4个小时的飞机专程过
去换护照，次日返回。
先说准备材料，登陆http://houston.china-consulate.org/chn/qzhz/zghz/查阅办理护照更新的材料。
1、下载、打印并填妥《中华人民共和国护照/旅行证/海员证/回国证明申请表》一张
2、准备3张小2寸照片（48mm×33mm），要白色背景或淡蓝色背景的。（我照的照片是
以前国内照的大2寸的，于是用尺子量、剪刀剪成小2寸的，领馆也接受）3张照片其中
一张贴在上述申请表上，另外2张交给领馆。
3、护照原件
4、护照复印件，包括首页（带照片的资料页）、最后一次出境中国和最近一次入境美
国的盖章页、最近一次美国签证页
5、I-20复印件（首页和末页）
6、I-94复印件（这个网页上没说，幸好复印了一份，当时还真要了）
如果身在异州不能亲自来休斯顿领取的话，要办理回邮，则还需要以下材料：

发帖数: 9508 | 5 护照刚过期几天，因为有H1B延期问题，必须现在去换，临时订了机票，当天来回。如
果可能，把时间算充裕点，万一出了什么状况，也好有缓冲。
上午10点飞机落地（IAH),出门马上找TAXI,上了一个尼日利亚哥们的车，问他要多久到
大使馆，他说要30分钟左右，记表，大概$54. 一路上东聊西聊，不时催他快点，还好
这哥们对路真熟，半个小时多一点就到了，给了他60刀走人。
大使馆的门脸真不起眼，去的时候门口没人排队，直接进去，门里有个老墨警卫，人非
常和蔼，问我去干吗。我说换护照，他就给我指了个人少的窗口，前面就2人。
10分钟不到，前面2人完事，我上去，把材料交进去，里面的使馆工作人员（是个兄弟
，没遇见JJMM,运气不好）粗略检查了一下，感觉没有太大问题，就把材料给隔壁窗口
的人（也是个兄弟）细查，最后确认没问题，给我写了个条，说1个月后寄给我。整个
过程不超过20分钟。
总体上，工作人员的态度还行，没有什么“衙门”的感觉，办事也很利索，赞一个。

个人认为德州的 DFW 地区算是不错。尤其是 Dallas 周边的城市，如 Plano, Frisco,
Allen, McKinney 等。大企业很多，房价不贵。

最近我的母校「東北密蘇里州立大學」在台灣突然變的很火，起因當然是我的學妹洪
秀柱決定要出馬競選中華民國總統所造成的，看到許多不實的新聞，我想我必須替母校
說幾句公道話。
首先我先介紹東北密蘇里州立大學的所在地克城(Kirksville) ，這是一個典型的美國
中西部小城，八十年代時人口大約兩萬人，其中五千人是東北密大的學生。學校位於聖
路易市北方約三小時車程，正處在密蘇里州、伊利諾州、及愛荷華州的三州交會處，廣
闊的農田，成群的牛羊，是這裡最直接的景觀，氣候四季分明，民風純樸，當地人對待
外國學生十分友好親善，感恩節聖誕節時，我的美國室友都會邀請我去他們家過節，交

Mai's Vietnamese Restaurant (4812 Bryan St)， 在Fitzhugh 和Bryan 交界处。 清
淡的越南菜， 姜丝牛肉不错， 还有海鲜煲之类也挺好吃的。缺点是分量小。
在Highland Park Knox Street附近的 Taverna，意大利菜。推荐他们的各种Risotto
dishes。他们的面包条配上橄榄油， 特别好吃。 价格中档。

不错, 但在Irving 有个3000尺的房子, 在Las Colinas 有个2000尺的房子, 也没人会
说那是中下, 因为硬件设施,交通,教育都不是北边能比的, HOA都贵出3-4倍. 你要能在
Highland Park买到2500尺的, 那这整个TEXAS 版都会对你刮目相看的. 呵. 就看你要

Many people like Allen and Frisco because the houses are newer and the
school district is not as competitive as Plano.They do not want their kids
to face intensive competition.
However, if your kids are smart to average and I think it is better to put
them in Plano ISD since they can learn much more. From Elementray to Middle
schools, there is no ranking. You can move them to Frisco and Allen or even
