洛杉矶地区没有最好的私立高中，只有最合适的私立高中。四所最严格私立高中是
Flintridge Prep, Pasadena Poly, Webb 和 Harvard-Westlake. 有些人可能会说最严
格的就是最好的，但对于大部分学生来说这种说法不对。对于大部分学生来说这种严格
的学校压力过大，每晚五小时的家庭作业 (脑子好使的), 加上周末，从九年级开始就
用大学程度课本。再加上2到3小时的体育训练或者演奏练习，加上社团，公共服务，和
课外活动。在申请大学的时候，大学不会因为你上一所非常难的私立学校，而对你网开
一面，反而在这里更难拿到好成绩。
最好从你所居住的周围开始咨询，因为你不会想要每天开很远的路程。就算是比较不那
么难的学校每晚也有3到4小时的家庭作业。有些学校有非常强的运动计划或者艺术计划
，所以选什么学校完全看你需要什么。不要太看中升学率，因为那主要取决与学生而不
是学校。
很多洛杉矶的天主教学校也收一部分非天主教的学生。天主教学校的费用通常只有私立

阅读：一个叫Sidney Sheldon的作家，是国际知名畅销书作家，曾经是作品翻译语言最
多的作家，他的书情节很紧凑，小时候看过的《假若明天来临》就是出自他的笔下。
另外一个阅读的好材料是报纸，有一段时间我每天晚上吃完饭之后在家里大声读报纸。
不过后来没有坚持下来。
8月初，我的英语课上完的时候，我的语言已经从刚来的6级到了8级，我的老师说，政
府资助的英语课程已经没有适合我的了，建议我要么去上college，要么去找工作。
秋季开学的课程已经来不及了，于是我就找了JVS，一方面参加他们的mentorship，一

的PI，co-mentorship。毕竟跟他做的时间少，我也说不出太多细节，只知道他实验室
绝没有版上传说的那种BT事件，前头毕业的师兄师姐也说他还比较NICE。现在虽然不跟
他身边干活，但他家开party都还招我回去凑份子。
第二个老板钱多，也tenure过了，有上进心，也会委婉的push，但基本不弄在脸上，就
是喜欢开labmeeting，让汇报updated data。
push的表现还有就是喜欢看我们杀老鼠，他说一看见架子上的笼子被拖出去了，心里就
爽！
曾经开玩笑说两个星期可以等于10天也可以等于14天，但周末和晚上实验室还是基本没
有人的。一次开会听别人说实验室里24小时都有人，就大叹我们实验室是共产主义。
我刚到他手下的时候搬家，家具、mattress啥的都是他和我两人搬的（他租的uhaul，
并当司机），当时因为听说实验室其他新来的人都是他接送或者帮助搬家，也就没有觉
得啥。开始没有车的大半年里，他上班都顺路接我，下班我自己做公车或者有时跟他车

发帖数: 4079 | 41 其实我有点怕"恨铁不成钢"的教授, 我没碰到, 我的很多朋友碰到了. 不是说这样不对
, 而是不一定对每个人合适. 只有对真正热爱研究的人, 这才有点用. 举几个例子:
我一个兄弟, 实验很不错, 文章也看得见, 老板关系也不错; 但他根本不喜欢研究, 只
不过把postdoc-回国做教授当作以后往上爬挣钱的途径, 做实验的时候都在想别的事情
. 这种情况下, be professional就是双赢. 双方互相帮忙嘛.
还有一个朋友, 原来挺喜欢研究的, 但老板对他要求太高(比对组里其他国家来的人要
求高), 他被老板搞得挺郁闷的.
至于我, 我phd老板一开始就跟我说: let's have a mutual-respect and mutual-
beneficial mentorship. 基本上我从来没有跟他有什么矛盾(因为大家都很
professional嘛), 到现在有时候会打电话聊聊. 所以说, 恨铁不成钢完全不必; 不必
对中国学生特别看待, 大家一视同仁就好了.
还有一点, 不是对楼主说的, 而是对其他比较mean的PI说的. 学术界大多数有名的有势

我时不时来生物版看看，因为我来北美也做了10年的科研，我自己觉得我有兴趣但
没有大的出路，也不是我和我的家庭的晚年的理想归途。于是，我40岁开始做跳槽
努力，虽然勉强过了USMLE，混进了住院，但我尽了最大努力做好，近50岁时从新开
始当医生。至少，我和我家人不再为养老发愁了，这里就不说那些悬壶济世治病救
人的高尚话语了。
我就不明白，要是真对科学感兴趣，愿意献身，老哭诉什么？如果不甘心，不请愿，
那这个自由世界有得是机会，你自己去努力总有可能改变自己不满意的现状的。即
使最差，你总是去努力过了。
人家老墨干餐馆、加油站，清洁工，也嗨皮得很，更有俺翻译的这个故事的精英。
而在这个各个牛B哄哄的大陆精英版里，看到的就是鬼哭狼嚎抱怨不休。俺来几次贴
点鼓励和建议的帖，总有那几个牛B到连俺的帖子的目的都看不懂，愣要说俺来显摆
暴发户的。
靠，就尔 等这水平，估计也就配在LAB里哭鼻子牢骚养耗子跑PCR了。
俺从来都是真人上网，当个普普通通的病理医生很满足，但我深知作为出来的学医

的小蜜发信问一下是谁。每个实验室的经费到了学校之后要接着划到系里，系里负责管
理这些经费的人就是 grant manager。我们学校的设置系里的 grant manager 权利比
较大，他们要帮每个实验室管账，实验室每次订东西都要他们 approve，确保每个订单
都符合 NIH 或者 funding agency 的要求。他们也负责帮系里的人申请 grant，大到
U01 P01，小到学生的 fellowship，他们都要帮忙。听起来苦博后的 grant manager
没做什么他应该做的事情，怪不得有情绪。学校的 Grant office 基本上帮不上什么，
不过你的申请在完成之后必须要送过去由他们填写第一页的一些关于学校的信息，然后
盖章签字之后你才能送。我申请的时候 NIH 的 grant 还不能在线填写，所以都是我们
系的 grant manager 帮我跑来跑去，把申请送到学校，签字之后再拿回来。现在都是
