据星岛日报报道，卑诗最高法院文件显示，现年39岁的原住民男子海恩斯（David Merle Haines），15岁开始犯法，多年以来的案底包括盗窃、攻击、藏毒和性侵等。
海恩斯第一次触犯性侵罪，追溯到1995年。当年，他被指在参加一次舞会后，性侵一女子。他在1996年被裁定性侵罪成。
到了1997年，当时仍在假释期间的海恩斯再度犯案，在一条铁路路轨上，性侵他女友的一个姊妹。
