perform slightly worse in the general case.
I concede cross shard transactions will incur a latency cost, but scaling
RDBMS to very large scales is a pain in the ass. For smaller data sets,
crossing a few shards isn't going to be *that* bad.
I never made an argument that there is no tradeoff between C/A against *

is important, revenue growth is more important, but user growth is the most
important. T's Q2 earnings had very good revenue growth but still
disappointed investors on her user growth.
Also, RPM is not a good metric for monetization potential. Youtube has video
, P has image, both should have much higher RPM than T. Actually T doesn't
even measure RPMs at all, they report "Revenue per timeline minutes". :)

更多的是自立而不是仅仅看分数，屈从社会规则对男娃而言并
不是一个良好的品性。
所以我觉得更多的不是男女性别本身差别，而是社会习俗对
男女要求不同，从小潜移默化造成的差别。
俺对俺娃读 non-fiction 的要求，其实就是考虑到这个
因素，对抗这种潜移默化。。。
另外俺上面这么踩标准化考试，并不是说标准化考试是个不
可取的东东。而是说，凡事都有无法顾及的方面。
标准化考试对中间段评估相对比较准确，对于两头的准确度就
差点。95 分以上我觉得就不知道实际评估的 metric，和设计
考试本来想要评估的 metric，距离有多远。。。但这没办法，
考试有考试成本。。。 |

大方如斯，统治和被统治，摆弄和被摆弄都是不会被改变的。
最多一点，藤校就好比nature science cell这个牛查杂志，最后也要参与电子期刊
free access的大洗牌，但是最后还是要有一个metrics来评价的。我们都可以不需要任
何期刊，只要一个google，最后马云还不是可以竞价购买搜索排行
我们的后代还是要被一个metrics摆弄，除非大家永远生活在sars时代。
这不也说了，还是有人不打疫苗，要出来招摇的................ |

工具的好处。。。
俺周末灌数学题的时候，同时还更换了一个浴室水龙头和下水管一套
（旧的突然漏了，正好升级）。。。俺修的时候，就搬出全套 Metric
和 SAE 固定扳手，外加全套 Metric 和 SAE 可调扳手，外加一对
Vise Grip 等等等等。。。原因很简单，因为俺不是专业 plumber，
同样的活干不了几次，不可能搞成熟手。工具不行就干不了。
但专用工具的问题。。。一来，需要的时候基本找不到；二来，如果找不到，
去店里买，开车一来一去就费了不少时间；三来，搞到手以后，先琢磨半
天咋用。。。所以除非角度实在刁钻到全套重型通用工具都没法拧到的时候，
才考虑去店里找专用工具。。。我觉得专用工具更适合专业人士，每天换
两个水龙头玩玩的那种。。。super fast run。。。 |

我这么说：
直接看族群/肤色来 equal protection，这最多是没有办法的办法。
因为族群/肤色，本身跟 disadvantaged 没有直接的 causation。
长期的方法，大致是两种模式：
（1）看那些族群，相比其他族群，有些啥 disadvantaged，并且
该 disadvantaged 因子是可以考虑发 coupon 的（IQ 就算了）：
在 polices 上，对那些 disadvantaged 发 coupon。
（2）看那些族群，相比其他族群，有些啥 advantaged，但目前
按一般常规并不放在考虑的 metric 里面的：
在 polices 上，在考虑的 metric 里，对那些 advantaged
的因子发 coupon。
另外有些 advantage 和 disadvantaged，在不同领域是不同
的，所以可以相互发 coupon，这样加强在不同领域的相互融合，
同时相对而言也更衡平。 |

或者套用 zone of proximal development 的说法。。。玩耍对于娃，属于
completely comfort zone，这个大人不用推。。。大人要推的，是那些好比 proximal
comfort zone 的事。
或者用马工的话说，这个 metric 如果已经 optimal，就不用费心去加 constraint 了
。。。constraint 要加在那些 suboptimal 的 metric 上，使之成为 optimal。。。 |

最新很郁闷，希望大家指点。
大致情况是，作为码工，之前心比较大，一个人拉起来一个新项目(跟ml infra相关具
体就不多说了)，其中也得到了公司中层的口头支持(除了不给人手)，所以自己一个人
干两三个人的活，加班加点，60-70h/week甚至更多都很正常。顶目中前期也还挺受关
注似乎也有些前景，但是第一个major milestone各种原因各种不顺利一直往拖了几个
月。我们是metrics driven的公司，顶目的效果在metrics上反映出来总是有一点点不
理想。现在的情况，甚至可能还会继续拖下去。
这就很沮丧了，加班加点干牛干马牺牲不少，自己纯干活的能力也算比较强，出活速度
质量自认为也是不错的。换来这样一个结果。觉得很悲催。postmortem就不说了，经验
