英国著名理论物理学家史蒂芬·霍金（Stephen Hawking）于星期三（14日）逝世，终年76岁。
霍金出生于1942年，他被誉为继爱因斯坦之后最杰出的理论物理学家。他以研究宇宙论和黑洞最知名。
但霍金又是一位饱受疾病折磨、长期坐轮椅的科学家。
1963年，年仅21岁的霍金发现自己行动开始变得笨拙，经检查，被确诊为患有运动神经细胞萎缩症，医生当时预计，他只能活2到3年。
MND
这种疾病的英文名字叫Motor Neurone Disease (MND)，中文叫肌萎縮性脊髓側索硬化症，也称为运动神经元疾病（也有俗称为"渐冻人症"）。
它到底是一种什么疾病？都影响哪些人？到底有多严重呢？
根据英国全民医疗保健系统（NHS）网站介绍，MND是一种并不常见的疾病。它主要影响大脑和神经，引起肌肉衰弱和萎缩，随着发病时间的推移逐渐严重。
据信，这种病总是致命的，它会大大缩短患者的寿命。然而，许多人患病后却能生活许多年。
目前，这种病不能治愈，但是有一些治疗方法（包括药物和锻炼）可以帮助病人减轻病痛，缓解疾病对他们日常生活的影响。

1. Upper motor neurons alone - PLS
2. Lower motor neurons alone - Progressive muscular atrophy (PMA) and spinal
muscular atrophies (SMAs)
3. Upper and lower motor neurons - ALS
这个孩子才25岁， 好像是无力不是僵直（spasticity），所以我不肯定他得到是ALS甚
至PLS， SMA倒是有可能（adult onset）。 如果有详细的体检和肌电图检查， 诊断应
该很容易。 纠缠这个诊断很重要， 因为有些SMA是良性的， PLS也比ALS好的多，尽管
有些PLS会恶化成ALS。
很多病早期只能说MND， 时间长了会改变，诊断就更明确。
不幸的是治疗大多数只是对症， 药物治疗ALS只能延长3个月的生命。 不过我觉得没有
道理病人不能吃味精， 难道因为MSG是neurotoxic？ 临床上一些药物in vitro是

“冰桶挑战”的公益热潮转眼已过了一周年，善款究竟都花在了哪儿？
9月16日，在“冰桶挑战-关爱渐冻人”项目中期交流会上，北京瓷娃娃罕见病关爱中心（下称瓷娃娃中心）与9家项目中标机构披露了最新数据。截至2015年7月31日，项目共花费399.2万元，直接帮助病友418人。
“渐冻症”是罕见病的一种，学名肌萎缩侧索硬化（ALS），又名运动神经元病（MND）。该病患者早期见无力、肉跳、已疲劳等症状，后期可能会发展成全身肌肉萎缩和吞咽困难，最后呼吸衰竭。
2014年8月，源于美国的“冰桶挑战”进入中国。瓷娃娃中心率先发起中国版的“冰桶挑战”，并在两周内募得了814.6万元捐款，其中有557万元的捐赠，意向明确为“支持渐冻人在内的罕见病群体”。以此批善款为基础，瓷娃娃中心启动了“冰桶挑战—关爱渐冻人”项目。余下250余万元则用于支持其他罕见病患者及组织。

(a) I can not find the commentary 新世紀海軍 or 新世紀的海軍--through tw.
yahoo.com, Google or in www.mnd.gov.tw.
(b) I doubt Taiwan military is so weak. No doubt Taiwan's is better than
that of any of ASEAN. And just two weeks ago, VOA Chinese suggested China
might be concerned about ASEAN. I also doubt Taiwan military dare say this
to Taiwanese.

，本部澄清說明如后：
一、病人陳先生在93年4月19日於高雄總醫院接受徵兵體檢複檢時，發現兩側隱睪(腹腔
內)合併兩側疝氣，於93年4月23日住進該院接受治療。
二、依據病歷紀錄及原主治醫師（陳智良醫師，已退伍離院）之確認與說明，咸認陳員
住院期間接受
「兩側疝氣修補、左側睪丸固定及右側睪丸切除術」，此為上述疾病之常規治療模式，
媒體所述與事實尚有不符。
三、針對病人家屬，質疑出院病歷摘要與手術過程紀錄過於簡單及隱瞞事實方面，本部
說明如后：經查證病人93年4月23日（星期五）住院接受手術，4月24日（星期六）出院，
術後病理組織報告結果於4月26日完成，故於出院病歷摘要無法紀錄呈現，但病理報告已附
於完整病歷上，未有遺漏；另檢驗血液、
生化報告及放射科檢查同時於4月23日住院當日完成，病歷摘 |

展方面。该病对病人和护理者/家人都是巨大挑战。
