XO说起常州华罗庚高中未毕业、自学成为数学大师，我油然想起八十年代几位家喻户晓
的数学家。除了华罗庚，他的弟子陈景润令高深的哥德巴赫猜想走向人间。普通人看不
懂他那六麻袋的1+2公式推演，但对他一心沉浸学问、走路撞到路上的事迹耳熟能详，
这和牛顿把怀表当鸡蛋扔锅里煮的故事是当时并驾齐驱的经典民谣。
从七十年代后期文革结束、恢复高考，一直到八十年代中期，社会上有一股强烈的求知
风气，大家都急于追回失去的十年时光。科学家们钻研学问、不通世务的小故事广为流
传，被无数小学作文引为楷模和榜样。报上也常看到年轻男女在公园、在公共汽车、在
任何地方人手一书、聚精会神阅读的照片。青年才俊郭凯敏在庐山清晨的小树林里嘹亮
地朗读“I love my motherland”的声音不仅激起归国华侨张瑜的爱情，也回荡在每个

发帖数: 67 | 9 惭愧最近三四个月都没怎么好好读完一本书，卡夫卡的硬着头皮看了快一
半了，还是摸不着头脑；午餐时间读的《The unwinding: an inner history of the
new America》读了都快一年了，终于剩下几十页。加上之前买房卖房折腾得心力交瘁
，压力大得都没心情读书，荒废了很久。看来，读闲书也是需要心境的啊。
听npr fresh air的book review，推荐一本 by Patricia Park，
听上去是个与移民有关的故事，加上还有romance，想着也该轻松一下，就找来看了。
easy reading，四五天的空闲时间就看完了。读epilogue, 才发现原来作者以前是哈金在
boston university的研究生，这个世界还真是小啊。也难怪里面对移民文化冲突的处理
有点哈金的影子，只是深刻性还是不够。毕竟作者是第二代的韩裔年青人，从小在纽约
长大，英语是母语，置身在美国的通俗文化中，更是个局内人。而哈金（包括我们这代

，很喜欢那里的风景照。昨天偶尔看到他给新项目作的网站，这回的主题是他的故乡英
格兰，拍摄路线里没有同属英国的苏格兰和北爱尔兰，所以主题不能算是“英国”。第
一感想是这位摄影师工作实在认真又有条理，为了这个项目又单建一网站，并且从买了
一辆房车开始，把旅行和调研的种种细节都记录下来了。

时就问我要笑还是不笑，我也不知怎么答她，好像说：Whatever you like...后来研究
了一下，有的摄影师非常严格，比如Martin Parr,Larry Sultan，就是不能笑，有的好

返美不写感想就象回国不带鱼油一样，人神共粪。放眼看去，一
篇又一篇尽是恍然大悟党和折翼小天使们坠落尘间九死一生的历
险记。哥今儿就翻开硬币的另一面写篇儿纯正面的回国感想，给
亲们换个口味。
国内机场的小推车免费。
美联飞机上的广播会把广播内容逐词翻译，算是帝国航空对天朝
市场的重视。
郑州满大街的出租车都烧天然气，街道上基本上闻不到汽油味儿。
摩托车大都用电池，经常静悄悄钻出来、静悄悄扬长而去。
第一次去少林寺,比预想好得多,嵩山不愧名列五岳。景区很干净
有序，没有强买强卖。导游专业、敬业、知识面很广。以后去的其
他城市的景点也都一样秩序。
在京津看到了有进度条的交通灯，一眼看去就大概知道红绿灯的剩
余时间。这边儿还没见过。
电梯普遍比这边好，又快又稳，可能是比较新。
厕所开始出现卫生纸，虽然很多时候就是个空架子，至少开始供应

评价艾未未的"Fuck you, motherland"视频。
这是一件非常激进的艺术作品
非常Provocative
也确实引起了大家的思考，个人认为这件作品的目的，是为了激发大家思考为什么这些
人要说这些话，是因为他们不爱国，还是因为他们在表达对政府极端失望和愤怒。不难
想象，所有在中国对公民权利、法制、自由、平等有追求的人，都能够理解where the
concept is from。这种provocative的手法在现代艺术中很常见。
不过遗憾的是，mitbbs上大多数北美wsn，表示不能理解，并宣称这是叛国。这不仅是
件让人遗憾的事情，事实上我认为暗示占北美留学生大多数的理工科学生和已经工作的
，缺乏人文素质教育。我个人也很遗憾自己年轻时没有能够接受更多人文教育，所谓
Liberal Arts.

很多科学家都以自己尊敬的国家领导人的名字来命名自己发现的新物种，例如以美国总
统奥巴马命名的一种蜘蛛 Aptostichus barackobamai 和以已故南非前领导人曼德拉命
名的海蛞蝓 Mandelia mirocornata。但是，用中国领导人的名字来命名新物种，这还
是头一次。

new species from Hainan Island, China，文中描述了一个来自海南岛的甲虫新种—
—习氏狼条脊甲 Rhyzodiastes (Temoana) xii。根据科学发现的规则，王博士将这种
以食腐烂物而生的臭虫，用中国国家主席习近平的名字命名。有关文章已经在内地被全
面封杀。
据介绍，条脊甲科Rhysodidae是一类小型甲虫，因为头部、胸部和鞘翅表面具有深沟和
纵脊而得名，另外它们还具有念珠状的触角，颇为奇特。
