大家高抬贵手，不要人肉。
做Data analysis, machine learning, computer vision 水很大的方向。但我Ph.D是
做的machine learning 都是更加针对人机交互和语音处理的，换方向花了一些功夫。
主要是自己更加喜欢cognition, brain function and computational modeling 的东
西，而且理论方面我对图论，抽象代数和随机过程很喜欢，感觉如果能够把这些整合起
来，以后更加能够有自己的想法。 我当时放弃了工业界的offer,因为还想挑战自己。
我自认是一个认准了想做一件事情就一定会去做好的人，我作博厚以来，每个礼拜工作
至少六天，至少有三天工作12小时以上 （我今天7:04am到， 7:33pm走的）。我第二年
有一篇期刊review都不错，估计会被接受，有一片SIGGRAPH 的小文。 我的工作还要跟
X-ray 联系，现在的工作可以作为一个软件帮他们分析数据了。 还有两篇working

and disease尽是些骗钱的勾当，基本上都是无解的或者比谁的数学模型花哨
我们公司在mit捐的title professor作的东西差不多也是这种类型，我一看就知道这家

/= 能泡妞。
身边的好多old boys' club的人物都不是会讨女人欢喜之人，但是他们之间能有共同语
言，能相互接纳和容忍，把事情决策好，这种协调合作的能力，也属于情商的一种吧。
我最近一直在观察这些old boy's club的人物，想学习一下他们之间的合作模式，或许
对我们打入敌人内部是有帮助的。

发帖数: 1 | 17 楼主说的是BD2K那个big data的K01吗？个人觉得没多大意思。估计nih的那些人也不明
白big data能干啥不能干啥。钱也不多。如果打算在医学院混tenure，攒paper傍大佬
申R01才是王道。
如果想作为换工业界的跳板，也没必要这么曲线救国。你自己做图像的，灌点图像识别
的水做敲门砖还是容易的。再自学点big data 和 ml 的东西，网上教材一大堆。工业
界 的 Data scientist 需要更多Engineering的技能，比如hadoop，SQL，至于算法只
要会用软件包就行。也有职位叫machine learning scientist的，更偏算法一些。但要
做好思想准备，除了G家F家这样的领头羊，普通IT公司这些职位钱多不到哪里去，而且
干的活挺无聊的。
我也是CS PhD，Neural network，SVM啥的估计比大多数data scientist还要熟。后来
脑子进水去医学院做postdoc。现在也只能干一行爱一行了。 |

名校都在搞神经网络（也就是neural networks), 但失败了，最近重新崛起了
至于data，几十年前还在用1.44M的磁盘，有个狗屁big data啊，

发帖数: 7844 | 19 工业界都是价值导向，赚钱是第一位的，所以谈business value能吸引投资者。
至于说Volume和Velocity，就是为了凑出V字头，而把scalability和efficiency改头换
面。CS里这么多年的算法复杂性研究，分布式计算，并行计算，诸多方向都是在致力于
提高这两个方面的表现。
你后面说的Variaty和Veracity也是对就概念的新包装。
Variaty可以认为是数据本身的complexity的复杂性度量，数据越多，数据分布其实越
复杂，需要更复杂的模型。过去数据量比较小的时候，不足够支撑得到可靠的复杂模型
。所以简单模型的表现很好，现如今数据足够多，复杂模型的优势就体现出来了。典型
的例子就是这些年的Deep Neural Network。还有Transfer Learning，需要想要对数据
来自不同domain做adaptation。
Veracity要对数据的可靠性进行检验。Crowd Sourcing，Outlier Detection，
Adversial learning都属于这一类问题。

发帖数: 5958 | 43 别逗了。那本书全都是贝叶斯方法，除了理论上能自圆其说，很难想想实际上有多大的
价值。对于公司来说，问题主要在于提feature，有了feature以后，剩下的SVM,
decision tree或者neural network，都有现成的东西可以用，效果好坏也没多大区别
。没什么时候需要去折腾贝叶斯方法的。 |

发帖数: 1602 | 46 最近看了下machine learning，感觉很多idea挺有意思，虽然也不是很新。感觉搞
machine learning研究的，主要都用概率统计，比如Beyesian information 和EE那些
搞信息论，detection and estimation的用的东西很像。
classifer一定程度上，也可以理解成多元检测。
还有EE里搞compressed sensing，在ML里也看到搞dimension reduction用到。
neural network里的back propagation还有点像EE里coding的，都用message passing。
当然了，convex optimization在EE的信号处理和ML里都用到不少。
搞ML是不是很多东西可以借鉴EE里现成的啊？ML里最前沿的研究都是做什么啊？听说
data scientist也不怎么像马工那样写code。
EE（通信理论方向的）转ML，当data scientist是不是也比较自然啊？ |

经火锅一阵了。
理论界不是什么前沿的玩意儿，镇不住人。酷爱推数学公式的人可以玩玩。
Machine Learning 可以搞得很虚，只有做成实际能用的东西，才有价值。 |

管三七二十一，直接就来一堆数学公式，而CS里面更注重实现，先搭一个working
system再说。 |
