Matheson，就不会是电影的novelization。要知道，novelization代价比出版一本旧书
高，还要commission作家，不容易。一般作家也不愿意做novelization的工作。
这种书一般都是几块钱，年代久远了，应该是Mass market paperback或者是trade
paperback版本了，都会很便宜。一般头版是hard cover贵一些，过两年就有trade
paperback出来了，再过些时popular的fiction就有mass market paperback。 |

is certainly a country quite like a sci-fi novel... The future was so
beautiful in the novel, but in reality the soviet union disappeared. I heard
that the main boy character also died in the years of the collapse of SU.
The pretty girl is almost 40 now.

发帖数: 4061 | 23 上周看了个去年的畅销小说，我称之为Costco Novel，和之前那本看了100页放弃的
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close 一样，都是去Costco时候，九块十块买的。
Costco Novel 不一定都是水分太多的，之前那本 Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy 也是赶
流行，读得狠给力，象苦咖啡，给你回味的空间。
不过一般来说 Costco Novel 都是快餐式的阅读，这本不例外。梗不错，也要拍电影了
（又读剧本了），作者Watson是学物理出身，做过好多工作，在医院里也干过，书尾明
确提到故事受了真实的失忆症患者的启发，文笔嘛，就不苛求了，至少通顺吧算是，属
于你快翻一两晚上就能翻完的那种故事。
打分3.5/5，多的0.5分是至少我读完了，而且也体会到了悬疑的阅读快感。
看上一次提到McCarthy的 The Crossing，在这本书之前读的，同样是四百来页的小说
，再往前的那个荷兰人在日本的，读了21天，The Crossing读了不到6天，对不对胃口
，就差这么多。

Eco本来是个学者，符号语言学（semiotics）教授。我写论文时还引用过他的一本《阐
释与过度阐释》（Interpretation and Overinterpretation），国内出版过中译本，
一本薄薄的小册子，文字铿锵正直。
Eco的专业方向是中世纪文献，钻研好多看不懂的神秘符号（semiotics）……他最出名
的小说《玫瑰之名》（The Name of the Rose），场景就是中世纪神秘城堡寺庙，主角
是福尔摩斯式的善于破译神秘符号的侦探。很少有学者能把自己的专业深入浅出地编成

what's really interesting about the movie and the novel is, in the novel,
Jason Bourne did a lot of 内心独白。But in the movie, Matt Damon hardly
speaks. And yet, he conveyed the emotion that the author tried to convey
with so many (too many) words.
Both the director and Matt Damon did superb job. I appreciated more after
reading the novel.

No, no, no.
It is the novel of DUNE that is a novel of an era. I'd bet that
it is far more important to the history of SF novels than to the
history of games.
There's a blockbuster movie based on this book recently. Usually
a blockbuster movie can drastically promote the original book.
Why do you say no one is reading this book now? :) |

Seems to me it was part of a longer novel. New Yorker does this a lot --
e.g. Jeffery Eugenides' << Middlesex >> published 3 selections on it over the
past 3(?) years, before the whole book came out last year.
The slowness may be exaggerated in the translation, since Western readers
expect an exotic, relaxed style from the Orient.
A novel does not have to have a lot of plot and/or character. It's been

I don't have enough space in my room and I read
Chinese novels very fast (too curious about the ending).
I found several Chinese literature in my university
library, but most of them are in English too.
But you can try Easten Asian Department if your university has it, I have
heard they have Chinese novels such as SI SHI TONG TANG, LEI YU, JIS CHUN
QIU... :)

Yue He, Gao Yang, Hai Yan, Bi Shu Min, An Dun...Because it won't take me much
time to finish the whole novel.
For the classic novels like Hong Lou Meng, San Guo, Zhang Ai Ling..I brought
them from China.
I have several books by Nora Roberts, but haven't opened any yet. :(
Sorry for English, I have no Chinese input right now..
