前我来到斯坦福任教, 正是93年，原来我也能算是个90后呢！
今天看到同学们刚入学的兴奋，也使我想起自己首次入学的那天,至今仍然记忆忧新。
那年我作为少年大学生， 考上了复旦大学。入学的那天, 感到一切都那么新鲜, 但最
使我好奇的是复旦这校名的由来。那天我才知道校名取自”日月光华, 旦复旦兮” 的
美丽诗词。2009年我来到清华大学，成为特聘访问教授。刚走进校园的东门，便醒目地
看到清华的校训，取自 “天行健，君子以自强不息” 的诗句。看来名校的校名与校训
往往都取自于古诗的浪漫与哲理。

半年多前在这个小区买了套房，是在 downtown 附近介于 100 街与 92 街之间的一个
社区里。 98004 的学区，地点好，房子好，风景也还不错，邻居素质好，住得挺舒服
的。本来还想说等房价起来后，拿出去卖掉，不过年纪大了，“不折腾”，就当作养老
之所吧。
我有条黄金猎犬，五岁，每天在社区里遛狗是我的日课。
遛狗的好处除了人与狗都有得锻炼之外，也可以顺便看看人家的房子。这个社区的房子
都挺不错的，连六七十年没有改建过的 dozer 都要 $1M（主要是地价），最高可能可
以到 $3M 吧，前两天经过一套正在卖的要价 $2.67M。我喜欢在遛狗的时候顺便看看邻
居的房子，看看人家的花园怎么设计的，房子的建筑有什么特色等等。同时这个社区的
人也很有礼貌，遛狗时在路上遇见人，都会彼此点头打个招呼，不管对方是开车还是走
路的，只要遇见了就会点个头招招手。

一个physician assistant（PA）如何来的？2年master毕业就可以（第一年基础课，第
二年就开始实习和准备就业）。别人MD要4年才学完的东西，PA一年就学完了，然后就
开始进入临床糊弄病人。这是美国医疗市场垄断和MD数量太少的畸形产物。也包括可以
单独看病和开处方的PRN（practioner register Nursery）。PA的素质与学识，跟MD完
全是两个世界和层次的。PA很多时候，还自我感觉良好，真把自己当doctor来看待。
想一想，作为病人，你花费同样的时间和金钱，本来应该是MD来服务，却得到PA低水平
的服务，谁不窝火？！很多诊所和医院，也是隐形的歧视，看人做生意。你是白人，他

标 题: [BSO] 周末超级扫货成果汇报

领导叮咛低调，可是架不住这个周末的收获太值得BSO了，实在忍不住了。
话说周六我们小区举办集体garage sales，只要上HOA领个牌子往家门口一插就可以把
家里积攒的破烂拿出来卖了。
我家没破烂卖，不过我家领导体谅我喜欢拣破烂，周六早上出门买菜之前开车陪我在小区
里兜了一圈。抱着看热闹的心态去，结果淘到了很多好东西。
大多数家庭都是卖一些旧玩具旧衣服之类的，我们连车都没下直接开过。
转过一个弯，我眼前一亮，一家人的车道上摆着一套藤桌椅，有个银发老太太很淡定地坐在一旁。
下车看看，再问问价格，二话不说这套东西就归我们家啦。
货真价实的藤子做的桌椅，保养得非常好。两个armchair刷上一层outdoor的油漆，放
在我家前门的porch上，傍晚一人一杯茶捧在手里，享受清凉微风送来丝丝缕缕的荷花
玉兰的香味，那真是惬意。
