From what I see, when senior faculty winding down their research, they focus
more on teaching, service, and administrative duty for the department. The
ones with active funding also put more emphasis on nurturing junior
faculties/trainees for their success.
I can't quite grasp what this question is trying to get to, may be to see if

但现实是残酷的。我讲讲我去年的经历。颇长。
第一章
前年我招了个硕士生，充满激情，对 science 很有 passion，放弃高薪工作来读博，
就是要圆做科学家的梦。我就收了。但两学期下来，才看清其本性，就是眼高手低。这
就算了，还喜欢 blow smoke and find excuse。自己做不出来，会编借口，blow
smoke功夫一流，我还几次同情这学生。不过骗得了一时，骗不了一世。我决定扫地出
门。这学生就开始在系里讲我坏话。我是从同事那里无意听到的。
第二章
这学生不是省油的灯，开始找其他老师。其中一人又如我被其“为科学献身”的讲演所
骗，来问我意见。我就说: not productive or mature enough, and not the best
personality around. 当然我不能把学生背后搬弄是非，blow smoke的细节一一说出
。同事就说，看起来不错啊，可能需要多多nurtur吧。这厮还真收了这学生。我一度很
不爽。

(shortsighted), and spent too much energy and money on "infrastructure",
