I personally don't like Emeryville that much so I will give you a few
options in Oakland:
1. Piedmont
2. Rockridge/monclaire area
3. Lake Merritt
4. Oakland Hills

我住在这里两年多，感觉这里有很多各种各样的小shop，别具特色。因为靠近UCB，经
常有人组织各种的讲座，附近有很多theater，可以看话剧等等。很多具有自己特点的
书店，唱片店，咖啡馆，餐馆的种类也很多，真是全世界各国的都有。每周各种活动非
常多。
走路15分钟有：whole food，trader joe，几个比较大的local organic store，和
safe way。两个bart站，n个公交站，carpool stand，alta bates医院开车5分钟，骑
车15-20分钟。30个各种口味的餐厅，去三藩巨方便。每周附近有3个farmar‘s market
。生活的方便程度可以和国内的大城市相比了。
小学也很好，初高中一般，但是私立不错。

Oakland怎么可能大部分地区是安全的，上crime report看罪案分布密密麻麻，连最近
电视新闻都报道说Oakland入屋盗窃发生后超过24小时警察都不上门登记，因为罪案太
多忙不过来，这种小case没有人管。其他南湾地区，一个小时以内就上门了，快的5分
钟到。
华人黑帮可不怕事，不过我们不是黑帮，Oakland也没有什么特殊的演出比赛非去不可
，还是避开点好。我这么多年就在那里迷路过一次，还有一次有人介绍我去那里的一个

最近几年，Oakland名声是臭了很多。 其实，Oakland跟Berkeley交界的山上那一片是
不错的，是那边有名的富人区。当然价格也不菲。Oakland跟哪个美国城市都一样，有
好区和差区。只不过它的差区更恐怖些，差得能让人丢了命。
所以，在Oakland租房，就不要贪便宜，绝对要进好区。当然并不是说住到山上就能敞
开门睡觉，基本的安全意识还是要有。前一阵子山上就有好几起入室抢劫的。不过话说
回来，人口混杂的大城市，很少有100% 安全的，像三番，南湾的那些富人区，也有不
少偷鸡摸狗的事发生。 |

悉的区域去.具体怎么不安全我不好说,因为我基本没去过. 天黑后开车经过那里,感觉
街上"闲人"比较多,饭店的生意晚上也不好,我在OAKLAND只吃午饭.中国城的商店夏天6
点,冬天5-5:30PM就关门了. 饭店倒一般开门,但我从来不去那里吃晚饭.
OAKLAND的一些好区没问题. 晚上OAKLAND的餐馆我一般去ROCKRIDGE/MONTCLAIR或靠近
PIEDMONT的商业区. |

没能跑到预订的目标340，有些遗憾，hilly course是个因素，耐久力的训练不足也造
成中最后
6mile的不给力。需要加些media long run。
训练
跑完cim休息没到4周就开始恢复训练，中间感冒了两周，基本上训练了两个半月。
mileage 不
高，每周保证一两次tempo和一次longrun。家里搞个treadmill，longrun外大部分都在
上面
跑。long run总共跑了2次20mile， 一次18.5MP(按3:45)，两次stanford dish hilly
trail，一次san antonia hilly longrun，借whx同学到访的西风还搞了次ultra 30k。
这都是为了对付oakland marathon的上坡。感觉速度没有cim前那么快了，心跳降下来
了。
大部分非longrun都是在晚上9点后完成，对生活的影响少了许多。
比赛流水帐。
头天晚上没雨，睡的也不错，没吃vasona推荐的脑白金。吃过一次，搞得我第二天还想
睡。

PARKING的，打听一下都是要30多一晚上的PARKING，好贵啊。

Best areas are Piedmont, Rockridge, Grand Lake and the Hills
Downtown Oakland is a mix-bag. Generally the Jack London Square
area and north and east of Lake Merrit are fine. Lake Merrit is
beautiful, BTW. The views from those highrise condos by the lake
are one of the bestin Bay area. In south bay you seldom get any
water view. |

PLEASANTON/WALNUT
CREEK/LAFAYETTE/ORINDA)应该受益.
近的PIEDMONT/OAKLAND HILLS/ALBANY/ALAMEDA应该受益更大. CASTRO VALLEY应该也是
受益者.
OAKLAND想开发UPTOWN DISTRICT, UBER是第一个搬进去的,关键是有没有其它公司也
FOLLOW.SF市太拥挤了, 商业地产也火的难以想象, OAKLAND/EMRYVILLE的地理位置其实
非常好. EMRYVILLE坐等非常好是因为把治安抓上去了, OAKLAND的关键还是治安,如果
形成良性循环(公司进,CITY有钱,多顾警察,公司再进),很有前景. 但目前不确定的因素
还很多. |

不安全，SF虽然也没安全感，但是会很明显的好过oakland。
这也是我7号没和组织接上头，想了半天宁可拐道过桥去SF也没敢自己一个人在oakland

今天去Oakland办事，办完了想去starbucks买包烟。
路不算远，我想就走过去算了。
没想到下午三点多，oakland也不安全。
走了没两步，迎面过来三个teenager，十四五岁左右，都打了耳钉。
我不由瞟了一眼，中间的一个冲上来就是一记耳光，打得我鼻血直流，眼泪哗的就流下
来了。可怜我也是四十奔五的老博士。。。
另一个把手伸到我裤兜里把钱包和cell phone掏走了。
最后一个把嚼着的口香糖吐出来，拍在我屁股上。围观群众哈哈大笑。
还好车钥匙没给我拿走，估计是因为不会开车。
我后来starbucks都没去，直接开车回公司了。
我发誓，以后我再也不去Oakland了，连小女生都这么凶！ |

Jamal al-Labani, an Oakland resident who was visiting Yemen, became a victim
of the violence that has plagued the Mideast country when he died after
being struck by shrapnel while walking home in the Yemini port city of Aden,
his family said Saturday.

今天10点左右到达Oakland TSC，人还挺少的，看门的黑大叔看了我们的notice二话没
说转给他manager，让我们等候，过了一会manager喊我们进去，是个亚裔老头，人很
nice，问了下我们为什么要提前来，我们说labar day长周末早就订好了旅行计划，来
不了，然后又问了我们几个基本问题在哪工作申请的什么类型绿卡（family based，还
是employment based)等等，很简单，就放过了。之后都很顺利，10个指头打指纹，照
相，拿到收据走人。总体感觉Oakland TSC的人对Walk in已经见怪不怪了，完全取决于
那天人多不多，管事的人好不好说话，心情好不好。祝大家也walk in成功，bless自己
和大家早日拿到绿卡！ |
