Dear Editors,
Nature has often been thought to represent one of the highest standards in
scientific publication, thanks to the collaborative works from editors,
authors and reviews in many years. With that in mind, I was both surprised
and disgusted by the recent article from Nature.com titled "Why great
Olympic feats raise suspicions" http://www.nature.com/news/why-great-olympic-feats-raise-suspicions-1.11109....

two sports are so different. "Just about everything about swimming is
exactly the opposite from running in terms of stresses on the body," says
runner-turned-triathlete Joe Friel, author of The Triathlete's Training

That is why athletes are important, why records are important.
Because they demonstrate the scope of human possibility, which

or maybe running a marathon in another planet under 1 hour counts?

extra pound of weight. Let's say
the pack is 60 lb, that is one minute/mile slower. But presumably because
the weight would alter the running
form, one would probably actually slow down much more. Only an Olympian can
run a sub 28 10K. Sub 30 is
good enough for NCAA championship competition - on track. On the road, add
one more minute. That leaves
us 31+6.2=37:12, assuming the policer officer is as good as NCAA championship |

corresponds to an Open (ages 20–30) equivalent of 10.122. Since the open
