2011年5月到8月 was a bit of black swan. Gold was supposed to correct
back then but S&P came out downgrading US, which shook the confidence
and shot gold price up 20%.
Part of the current hard correction is paying back for that 2011
overshoot. If it overshoots in one direction it tends to overshoot
in the other when it oscillates back. |

打个比方，A就是碳排放，B是climate change，难道一定要减排？减排
别说减排的效果太慢，没法消灭原来已经排放的了，就说这种调节方式
必然overshoot，更不用说还有人说要小冰河期了。
其实C很简单，直接在平流曾发射点反射太阳辐射的材料，上次有人说过
某种硫化物？这玩意起效快，效果好，而且没有长期效应，过几年甚至几
个月就自己消散了，不会overshoot，最重要的是成本低，比减排差一两个
数量级

PID overshoot 无法避免。 其实任何有反馈的控制都会overshoot.
除非你 有 perfect 的预测模型， 结果完全在你predict 之中， 那你 OK 了。 |

1. 全球变暖是不是真相。其实追究是100%正确，还是80%可能都没关系。引用
steve chu的话。你是不是要买汽车保险，不管是不是100%会撞车？变暖是一个
risk，就算不是100%可能，为了买保险也要小心。
2. 防止全球变暖必须减少碳排放。这是一个假命题，就算全球变暖确实是由碳排
放造成的，那也有其他更加cost effective的方法，比如每年通过物理方法增加大
气层反射等等。更重要的是，这种控制碳排放的方法没法微调，容易overshoot，
万一接着一个小冰川期，大家还赶快烧森林？ |

我的车在Boston的满是坑的路面开了2年，今年春天以来，操控性急剧下降，经常路上过
一个坑或者坎就方向盘不听使唤，轮子左右乱跑。把车子吊起来检查，发现主要问题来自
前轮的steering系统。两边的lower ball joint和左边的tie rod end全部损坏，用手一
扳前轮，能左右晃。于是更换这些部件，车子操控性改善了很多，但是还是没有恢复到以
前的水平。接着检查，发现两个后轮的shock absorber渗出了大量密封的阻尼油，于是估
计两个后避震失效了。检查shock absorber的方法很简单。把车放在平地，每个角逐一用
力往下按，然后突然松手，车子往上弹起的速度和幅度因为shock absorber和coil
spring的性能不同而不同，但是一般的车子应该向上弹起一次，然后就停下，学过contro
l或者vibration的人应该知道用术语说就是overshoot一个周期，如果超过一个周期，就
是shock absorber不行了。我试了一下我的车，好家伙，后面按下起能弹5-6次才停下，

Deleveraging always overshoots its fair price, which is what happens
when the asset gets bubbled up too much.
Government intervention doesn't really stop deleveraging b/c it only
makes it as if stable when measured in Dollar. If you measure it in
gold which is true money that cannot be depreciated, it still deflates.
What government does is depreciating the current and then spreading the
pain onto responsible people. |

1. 身份。hard science毕业的，甭管多牛，多数要做几年postdoc熬卡，等凑够EB1A资
格了，年纪也一大把了。EECS专业的，刚毕业没卡，靠OPT裸奔有太多运气和政治因素。
2. 文化。语言能力还到是其次，主要是文化。和上上下下套近乎扯闲篇，得有话题。
三句两句就扯到工作或者天气上，然后就没有然后了。
3. soft skill。很多索男索女从小一路考试过关斩将，脑瓜好使又吃得了苦，尤其是
那些国内top3出来，在美帝又是什么名校牛老板手下搞过高大上的研究，眼睛长在脑门
上，觉得自己技术过硬就必须处处成功。只是在书堆里摸爬滚打，没有street smart，
碰到老板、同事、客户，要么不屑和他们交流，要么不敢和他们交流，满身的手艺和能
力，愣是能把金子给present成土豆。
大部分华人在职场上，专业能力已经overshoot了。搞得再牛，也只有marginal effect
。在soft skill上动点脑筋，才事半功倍。 |

说到local，您在哪个local房价涨让大伙也了解一哈。估计现在除了dc和cupertino还
能坚持。而且这“疯抢”的条件也是“低个几万”，这不是dip的趋势难道是上涨的趋
势？
2000年价格是中期底部，这几年在这个版我一直如此宣传，也给出了很多专家的研究参
考比如t2partner的报告、mish、peter schiff、case shiller等等。
我的观点很简单也很清晰：现在是买方市场。买方市场是什么意思？就是房价在降，供
大于求。对于有需求的同学，要强调的就是砍价，我从来没有强调“等待”，等待是为
了更好的价格而非被动地单纯地等待。
一再强调的2000年价格是衡量供需两方面之后的现实砍价目标（1921年或1931年明显不
现实）。我相信这个砍价建议除了agent之外，买房的同学没有表示不舒服的。每个地

可能个性的缘故，一开始就对TA有些怀疑。 学习尝试了多次未果，一番思考后我决定
放弃， 包括止损在内。08年中段之后就已经形成了我只捞底不追高，控制仓位的不止
损基本策略。不幸满仓带着一小堆靠遇上了雷曼倒台后的超级大熊市。我的一根筋让我
有半年时间处在帐号崩溃的边缘。
然而，也正是一根筋不认输的劲头把我救了回来。09年2月底我把银行里最后一笔钱取
出加仓，买入我认为跌得不可理喻的一些高beta股，其中有3块不到的TC， MTL，PRGN
，5块不到的WX，当然还有老朋友LDK（5call）等等一大堆。其中TC我是花了些力气做
FA的。它的cash每股就是接近3块，没有债务，等于说它拥有的矿山，设备还有库存的
大量矿石都是不要一分钱的。
随着奥巴马一声“buybuybuy”，3月初股市突然就掉头了。被熊市吓晕的我，当在死猫
跳后继续的瀑布已经成为一种习惯，我捂得住下跌却捂不住上涨。TC， MTL，WX等等，
等等，等等，都在翻了大约一倍后被我卖掉。一直捂着的蓝筹也因为贪小利卖了
