Matthew Boyle of the Daily Caller reports that internal emails show Treasury
Secretary Tim Geithner was “the driving force” behind terminating the
pensions of 20,000 non-union retirees from the Delphi auto parts
manufacturing company, as part of the government’s bailout plan for General
Motors. Union workers, on the other hand, “saw their pensions topped off
and made whole.”

(b) The quote somehow suggests a manager can not receive a pension but that
a union member can. I am uncertain about the former. But the latter refers
to multiemployer plans.

发帖数: 2789 | 6 毛哥很牛啊，啪啪能扯一大堆，为了提高打字速度，我主要用中文回了。
我支持毛哥的观点。我们公司目前又开始拿DB plan了，今年到目前为止增加了10+个。
基本都是政府机构，比如fire department，city clerk之类的。这些plan利润很高，
而且工作还相对少些，比如PBGC不用file。我们目前健在的plan也基本都是hybrid了，
如果是普通公司，纯db非常少，大多是db和profit sharing。其实db还有个重要市场就
是<10个人的小公司，比如牙医诊所，妇科医生等等。db这个时候的主要作用是避税，
和养老没关系了。当然ira也能避税，但如果设计的好，db能多拿至少10%-15%的钱。如
果一个牙医的pension是2M（我们的普遍case），在税上能省200k-300k。除去我们的花
费，很多小业主还是愿意折腾一下的。
至于post-retirement的 H&W val，目前貌似也是强制要提交5500了（但好像pbgc还没
管因为没要asset cover的要求）所以今年我负责的HW也增加了不少。这个valuation和

have pension, you may want to save some more, using something like Roth IRA
on the other hand, pension problem is pretty normal, for example, in old
days many private companies have pension, and if the company go bankrupt,
federal government has something to deal with it (at least they try to),
google PBGC.
Work hard to earn more, also don't have to be too pessimistic with regarding
to this country.

The aging population will kill the countrywide pension system. Late retire

thus in case of bankruptcy, pension has a claim to company's asset, behind
senior debt owners, but before equity owners. It is almost certain a hair-
cut would happen unless the pension beneficiaries are politically well
connected (think UAW). PBGC also insures benefit to a limit.

一样的，政府的也不一样，政策方面主要受IRS, ERISA, PPA和PBGC控制，不过不晓得
