我们这个系统可以以两种方式计算pension的数量--一个是你说的服务年限，最多是工
资的80%，我记得是30年或以上的服务年限。一个是用你在这个系统里有多少钱来计算
的。那个多，我可以挑那个。第一个方式里有一个漏洞--如果退休钱突击涨工资怎么办
？这个漏洞政府补了一下，是四年最高工资的平均数乘以一个系数。对大多数普通职工
而言，这个突击长工资是不可能的。
许多人之看了最后拿到手的钱，没有真正去计算。以我们的系统计算，30年，每年工资
的16%村进去，每年以股市投资平均回报来计算，30年后是多少钱？两年前我一上面的
两种方式计算了一下，我可能是以我最后账户里的钱多少更合算。
现代人没有多少人有这个耐心来投资30年了。我们这个系统90年代末有一个大调整，就

了三个雇主，一个干了一年九个月，一个干了一年八个月，其余时间都是在这所大学里
度过。20年之所以有纪念意义，就是终于满足了退休后医疗保险被当作雇员对待的条件
。在obamacare难以为继的今天，这个20年还是有现实意义的。
退休后钱多钱少都能过日子，但昂贵的医疗保险是许多人早退休的最大顾虑。没有医疗
保险，随便一个病就是几千几万，一个大病甚至可以耗掉一生的积蓄。当然，你身无分
文也好办，穷人自然有政府来承担医疗费用。可中产不合格，只能自己掏腰包。美国老
人能享受的医疗保险是medicare，但要等到65岁之后。所以，很多中产，夫妻俩个其中
一个是必须熬到有medicare的时候才退休的。
很多州政府雇员的退休待遇和私人企业的雇员往往不一样。我们这里的情况就是也交
medicare tax,但不交social security（社安）保险，而是由州政府提供的pension来
代替。而退休后医疗保险，以每工作一年挣退休后5%的雇员待遇来计算。你要工作了十

试问, 现在还有哪个大学, 不管是中西部还是东西两岸, 能给博士后提供pension的?
LZ的淡定和从容, 很大一部分来自于这样的pension制度, 干满多少年 (一般25年),
就可以全工资退休+医疗保险. 如果现在所有的生物博士后都有这等待遇, 恐怕
就没几个人抱怨和劝退了. 换句话说, 如果现在把LＺ的pension去掉， 恐怕ＬＺ就
没有这么淡定了.
想想看, 55岁退休, 就算活到75岁, pension 20年最少也得60W, 更何况pension是跟通
胀挂钩调节的(到LZ75岁时, 他也许就可以拿到3500或5000/月, 根据当时的生活待遇水
涨船高),所以到75岁时, 也许总额是100W. 如果LZ没有这pension, 你让他或现在的博
士后如何从现在的工资去攒这100W退休费? 即使能攒出来, 过了75岁没钱了还活不活?
ＬＺ有了pension, 无后顾之忧，活８５，１０５都不用担心， 而且死了配偶还可
以继续拿.

生物phd，纯计算的实验室，当年被生物奥赛忽悠，鄙视cs，一心觉得只有生物学才推
动人类社会向前进，后来发现自己paper看不进去， seminar听不进去，懒得想问题，
另外手残得不行，非常毛躁，常常毁了样品或者洒了试剂，继续做实验科学，幸福感低
就不提了，迟早慢性把自己害死。不过话说回来，生物这个学科是不需要鄙视的，我的
同学里面，做得好的，乐在其中的，也大有人在，只是对我这个个体而言，是走错路了。
于是申phd的时候，决定改做计算。做着做着发现非常喜欢能把东西做出来，别人还能

很少，全靠自己打拼。

资很高。普通工作普通薪资，政府有pension的工作也蛮不错的。在快速印钱，钱快速
被稀释的年代，稳定的退休pension就相对吸引人。事实上，经济危机钱贬值也让不少
已经或刚刚退休的美国人重新出来找点活贴补家用，有pension的退休人就相对稳定点
。前几年经济危机也让政府工作很吃香，让政府更容易招到人才。事实上这年头政府也
不好进。政府pension和工龄成正比。如果有进政府的打算，可以先选政府。以后再打
算私营的，有见过不少政府退休后再给政府当contractor的，但不多，因为混那么多年
，混到了一定高度薪水也不低。很多military retiree进政府，之后都拿两份pension
，估计现在还是这样。military pension比政府pension还好多了，人家２０年就可以
退休了，一退休就能拿pension，退休时才四十出头，四十多岁一边拿pension一边开始

一个walk in clinic，我从上午拿号，tmd等到下午4点
因为前面一堆老头老太太在排队，我在其他国家包括袋鼠国没有遇到过的
袋鼠国我进的也是公立诊所，等候时间半个小时，就有医生护士过来招呼我
先是护士，然后做点基本检查，然后医生半小时后来招呼我，看病
基本上整个流程一个小时多一点全部搞定，走人
这也都是在华人聚集的地方
北美国pension是呆满四十年才能拿100%，至少呆够10年
如果你呆够10年，那么pension只能拿25％，每多一年，多1/40
老中以30多岁高龄到加拿大，大多数人退休，估计都呆不满40年
更不要说你这里面还经常性进进出出北美国，又没有报税怎么怎么地
没那么容易拿，而且退休年龄一直在往后压，等你拿pension时候
你都65岁了，你去指望pension，实在是够呛
pension这个最好是袋鼠国，呆满10年就全额给
袋鼠国也在讨论把退休年龄往后压
不过pension没有多大意义，一个月几百刀，你随便买很小的公寓
租给小留，一个月就超过pension那点钱了，这种小公寓也就十多万
所以所谓的pension的意思就是额外给你十多万钱

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) released its 2015-2016 budget Monday, including
$200 million in spending cuts and 479 additional teacher layoffs. In June,
the district announced 1,400 layoffs.
Despite the cuts and layoffs, the district still has a $480 million
operating budget gap. Republican governor of Illinois Bruce Rauner has

太大关系。唯一的影响是如果有pension integration。如果private pension
running ok, 在这种情况下，退休人的society security benefit会有相应的
减少，如果private pension 破产，退行人将会“有可能”从SS领到比原计划
多的benefit, 但这里面的情况很复杂。
真正对纳税人有直接影响的是政府funding的pension (非SS，比如cover政府
雇员的），以及最大的pension, the one big floating public funding
pension: society security, 也就是Bush目前在猛力推销改革的那个。
我以前是比较倾向于布什的改革的，最近读了些材料，观点有所改变，简单来
说，SS是肯定得改(SS其实也是guaranteed benefit plan), 但布什的改法我
有保留，最关键的是，medicare的问题更大，更急迫，是最应该改的。 |

这几天上班比较闲，报一下卧佛儿吧，请版大别置顶加精啥的。上次发帖求bless以后
很多童鞋在关心，这里算是一个交代吧。因为板上熟人很多，未来同事和老板都在潜水
，具体的信息不便公开，请谅解。
我做了3年pension对前景不是很看好，于去年11月开始找工作，目标比较窄，主要在非
咨询公司的pension asset management部门（有直接工作经验）和保险公司的VA部门（没直接相关经验）之间选择。当时一个VA和一个risk的机会同时面试，VA当天就给了
onsite后就把risk给拒了。然后一轮onsite，二轮onsite，就发卧佛儿了。个人感觉和
咨询公司不一样，保险公司HR动作比较慢，decision的turn around时间比较长，从开
始面试到拿到正式pacakge有3个半月。我之前的2份咨询公司的卧佛都是开始第一轮电

我要澄清几个你的错误。
1） Social Security Tax 是你出6.2%,你的雇主出6.2% （不是9%）。这有上限，现在
是108K。
2）Pension很多情况是你不用出，有得要你出一部分。
3) Pension很多情况下，不止40%, 想1983年前加入联邦的雇员，Pension是80%，本地
的教师是100%。1983年后加入联邦的一般雇员是一年1%，20年以上是1.1%。
4）Pension是和SocialSecurity计划对应的（在各级政府），在企业是和白给你的401K
matching对应。
5）Pension跟你自己交的401K没有任何关系。各级政府和有Pension的企业，都可以有
401K或类似的计划。
6）为什么现在企业基本上没有Pension,因为他们没有钱白给你了，这在股市2008年垮
掉之前就这样了。
7）401K matching很多公司都很少，甚至没有。比较普通的是50%match你的头6%,也就
是说最多3%。

I taught for 35 years, most of it in district # 230. I never earned a lot of
money, but I loved kids and teaching. I never made enough to invest in a
