WASHINGTON — The number of violent crimes fell by a surprising 12 percent
in the U.S. last year, a far bigger drop than the nation has been averaging
since 2001, the Justice Department said.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics reported there were 3.8 million violent
crimes last year, down from 4.3 million in 2009.

According to a survey conducted by Aptilon, a pharmaceutical sales and
marketing channel company, by the end of this year about 61 percent of US
physicians will be using iPhones. About 9 percent will use an Android
smartphone and 9 percent will be using a BlackBerry smartphone, according to
the survey. Overall 84 percent of US physicians will have a smartphone of

say they would blame congressional Republicans for a government shutdown,
with 36 percent saying the president would be more responsible and 13
percent blaming both the GOP and President Obama.
The results are similar to last week's CBS News/New York Times survey that

WASHINGTON Unemployment rates rose in nearly all large U.S. cities in June
as college graduates and many of those still in school began searching for
jobs.
The Labor Department said Tuesday that unemployment rates rose in 347 large
metro areas in June compared with the previous month. They fell in 12 and

a result of Obamacare. Maryland ABC affiliate WMDT reports:

SHANGHAI (AP) -- China's economic growth surged to 11.9 percent in the first
quarter but inflation was lower than expected, easing pressure on Beijing to
hike
rates and cool the boom.
Consumer prices rose 2.2 percent compared with a year earlier, the National
Bureau
of Statistics said Thursday, well below the government's ceiling of 3
