The delicate, decorative 16-inch vase started at a not-inconsequential $800,
000, but after a half-hour of unexpectedly spirited bidding, the gavel fell
at $69.5 million. It was the highest price ever paid at auction for a

如所周知，历史上的巴勒斯坦地区包括当今的约旦全境、以色列全境（本土及被占领土
）及周边一些地区，通常把约旦河以西叫做西巴勒斯坦，以东叫做东叫巴勒斯坦。英国
当局在1921年把占全巴勒斯坦77％（89,715km2）的东巴勒斯坦划出，称为“外约旦”
〔Transjordan〕（AW按：意思是约旦河那边——东边）。这么划的一个重要原因是东
巴勒斯坦没有犹太移民。这一分离立即遭到阿拉伯人的反对。直到上世纪60年代，约旦
国王侯赛因和阿拉法特都反复说“巴勒斯坦就是约旦，约旦就是巴勒斯坦。”但是在
1970－1971年间的“黑九月”期间，约旦国王对阿拉发特的PLO进行了武装清除。直到
那时，人们还不认为这是约旦对外国武装分子入侵的回击，而认为是内战。自此之后，

The 18th century Qianlong-dynasty porcelain vase is believed to have fetched
the highest price for any Chinese artwork sold at auction.
Offered to buyers at Bainbridges in Ruislip, north-west London, the
