I am drinking a cup of tea and suddenly a question comes up. I thought
it might interest you too so I post it here.
So what is tea, or coffee? Why after I put those treated tea leafs in
hot water the flavor goes into water? My guess is the tea we drink is
actually a kind of loosely bonded porous material, with "tea particles"
residing the pores. When these particles meet hot water the thermal
energy becomes large enough to break the trap from the network thus
water has flavour.

artificial vascular graft
的研究由来已久。看这段中文我猜大致意思是biodegradable
polymer作scaffold, 即3毫米ID的channel, 用“多微孔的膜”创造一个ECM,
这个"多微孔的膜“的膜估计也是porous polymer, hydrogel之类的,然后把EC注入,
不懂”肝脏或者肾脏的细胞注入“的具体理由,大概就是多提供点cell吧。
我想他最后还要把硅晶片抽出来。
光看中文科技消息,看不出来这个除了用个硅晶片外有什么闪光点。

Langer在2005年MRS上的获奖发言整理后的文章。
综述了32年的历程。
以前听过偶老板说过的一些有趣的东西,
比如Langer一开始做controlled release的时候,
没人相信大分子可以从polymer里面release出来,
他一次参加Macromolecular Symposium的时候,
发言过后,有个老家伙对他说:we do not believe anything you have said.
呵呵。。。。不过我看Langer自己肯定当时没讲清楚,
如果那些是实心的polymer microsphere的话,
当然是没办法相信有大分子drug会release出来,
diffusivity在那里摆着的么。。。
关键Langer做的是工程,后来也发现放了药之后,
小球根本不是solid的了,先是产生相分离,
然后release玩了发现其实剩下的只是个porous structure而已,
能怪别人说你错么。。。你要是讲清了那是个空洞结构,
谁也不会傻到认为最多十几个纳米的药不能从3-100 microns的孔洞中渗出。
挺有意思的,Langer同学如今是超牛了

是啊,哪你说我的化合物上如果有PMMA的基团会咋样?先照360nm的UV,聚合成低分子
量的PMMA,再照260nm的,我的化合物聚合,PMMA断掉并被remove就能做porous,呵呵
好像太理想了一点。。。

Anyone has experience in how to make porous large size silica from fine
silica powders? Simple press method does not work for me since the tap
density of formed large size silica is way too high compared with fine
powders. The target is to have marcropores formation in formed large size
silica. I am thinking to add something together with fine powders while
press; then extract (remove) the "something" out but I have very hard time
to find that "something". Probably adding some kinds of polymers

好文章,DSC不错。提个笨笨的问题,porosity和pore size是一回事吗?有的文章用
blotted dry method去测porosity因为材料的密度一致,但是要是不知道密度(比如说
混合材料),那这种方法的可行性如何?--〉Controlling the porosity of fibrous
scaffolds by modulating the fiber diameter and packing density有什么更好的方
法(如果不用diffusion,因为材料的限制-fragile &thin)?
另外有的方法用algorithm预测pore size,可能使我背景差,没太看懂怎么算的555

我现在的情形很不好,想法也很乱,上来说说,请大家指点,语无伦次之处,也请包涵.
我是学固体力学的,三年前拿了博士.硕士和博士都跟同一个老板念的,写有限元的程序,
模拟复合材料制造的过程,做过filament winding和resin transfer molding的模拟,模
型都很简单,热方面是基本的热传导加上polymer的固化,流体方面把polymer简化成
incompressible and newtonian fluid, 用darcy's law算flow through porous media
.毕业时一时头脑发热,没做什么research就jump到nano的领域,去了一个很差的学校做
博士后.当时也没有申请别的学校,只是不小心碰到这个老师,他说可以让我做nano
injection molding,我觉得听起来还不错,就去了.结果是后来他又不做这方面了,我就
学了些计算化学的东东,算了一下nanotube的弹性常数之类,两年就过去了.这段时间的
收获是好好地补了一下材料方面的知识,对nano也有了一点了解.去年换到另一所学校做
博士后,说来也是稀里糊涂地来到这个

如果thin film不是很uniform 比如蛋白质monolayer 这样测出来的thin film
thickness准么?
