。这期间有幸拜访了8所学校，跟大约100位professors促膝长谈，感觉是一段奇妙的经
历，想发帖纪念一下。并且，之前从很多前辈的帖子里得到过很多帮助，也希望我的经
历也能对后来人有所帮助。
首先，在申请前我看了Philip Guo的文章（http://pgbovine.net/guo-faculty-job-search.pdf），感觉很有帮助。这篇文章对整个申请流程各个环节都有较详细的描述。版上之前有人推荐过，我这里再推荐一次，因为确实受益匪浅。
关于opening positions:
（1）我所有的职位信息都是从 http://cra.org/ads/ 上面得到的。可以subscribe，每天自动收到一封总结当天所有职位的email，很方便。不过这里只有和CS相关的职位信息。
（2）个人感觉研究方向是否符合market的大势很重要。印象中今年CS的很多职位都是

1) 可以withdraw OPT application吗？
application 还在initial review, 没有approve,申请开始时间是6/1号。
现在想延期到暑假毕业，所以想先取消申请，暑假快毕业时再申请。
网上查都说可以withdraw application，但是学校OISS说不可以。。
有人withdraw,后来又重新申请到的吗？
2）OPT反签的offer letter必须是full time吗？
如果不能取消，而我必须回国，就只能带着offer letter回去返签了。
老板很nice，说可以offer part-time的positon,不知道签证是否可以？

今天这个感觉答得一般，碰到一个说话特低沉的白人，而我习惯说的很快很passionate
，感觉和对方temple不同，比较郁闷。经常是我说了一堆，然后那边静音10秒，他再做
点评论。大部分都是open question，所以也没有绝对对错，感觉他在看我又没有feel
之类的。 大概面了50分钟，最后说keep in touch。
一面的时候是HM，和他谈得很欢快，结束时说如果几天没没有消息，要找hr。
紧张啊，目前为止一个on site都没有，希望这个可以拿到 |

1. IT 行业只有两种职位： contractor 和 full-time-employee(FTE)
2. 对想成为FTE的人来说，做CTH的这段时间风险异常的高，而且必须做好随时再找工
作的准备。
3. 对只想做contractor的人来说，to hire 没有什么吸引力， 而且to hire or not
to hire, 这个决定和之前给不给你这个to hire的胡萝卜根本没有关系。
4. 为什么会有CTH这种模式出现呢？ 公司有错误的假设：IT行业和传统行业一样，员

记得以前看过一个什么文章讲，你让这些fund manager挑5个10个会表现好的股票，以
他们的水平，都能找到很好的。但是要让他们挑100个会跑过大盘的（risk adjusted）
，他们就不行了。而mutual fund受到很多regulation的限制，要求他们diversify，于是
（以下是我自己interpret的）
1. diversify的越多，diversify的marginal的降低风险的意义越不大（这个是
finance的基本概念），反而这时候就是fund manager的选股票的能力越低。
2。 更大的asset，股票的数目相同的话必然每种股票的positon就越高，于是每一次买
卖，必然是更加影响股价，卖的时候卖的低，买的时候买的高，交易成本变大。（我觉
得这也是individual investor仅有的优势了）
所以结论，fund manager水平相同的情况下，少asset更容易收益高。
