上周末，耶鲁校长发了个全校通告：Calhoun住宿学院正式改名。一下子把我看乐了。
Calhoun出身南卡，是耶鲁1804届毕业生，当过美国副总统、国务卿、战争部长等；
1931年被用来命名耶鲁新建的七个住宿学院之一。而Calhoun近年背运连连，是因为他
生前大力支持黑奴制，坚决反对废奴运动。前年，Calhoun的南卡家乡爆出黑人教堂枪
杀案，成为这个倒霉蛋的最后一根稻草：愤怒的耶鲁学生游行抗议、联名写信，要求学
校废除Calhoun这个学院名。
一波三折的是，经过从夏天到第二年春天的漫漫九个月讨论，去年四月校长发了个全校

The Connecticut Democratic Party quietly voted Wednesday night to remove
references to iconic former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson
from the name of its annual fundraising dinner due to their links to slavery
and the mistreatment of Native Americans.
