half n half.
You give them half of what you earn, and it is very hard for a company to
change you from contractor to hire, because company will have to pay these
paracitic kelly scientific large amount of money! |

STL很爽
但是scientific computing不够阿
又用了用MTL, Blitz++
都不是很完善阿
而求处理向量，矩阵Fortran 90简直太自由，太方便了，而求非常efficient
不过要看portability, 封装性等等，C++还是有很多优点的
而求C++ compiler 选择也比较多，还有free的
g95还要等一段时间吧 |

Intel I7-3770, 8GRAM
一般$1000+就能搞定。
发现有Workstation，如配置Intel Xeon W3550，8G RAM等居然要2000~3000多的。
请问Workstation比普通台式机有什么优势吗

它领域方面(天文,生物,化学,物理,力学,气象,地质)的专家
CS的人能做的贡献也就是数值方法(numerical methods)与
并行计算罢了
并行计算的研究主要有
1.自动化并行compiler,将原本不是并行的code编译时加以自动
并行化,(现在有OpenMP将负担减轻一些)
2.算法研究,某算法虽然是并行化的,但scalability不好
或该算法要在shared memory机器上跑效能才好,改成message
passing後效能不好(但将来趋势是PC cluster,一定是message
passing为主),如何改进?
3.性能研究,与上面有点关系,很多性能方面的问题都是locality
的问题,如何把data搬到离processing愈近的地方(像什麽
Intelligent RAM, active disk等,都是这些元件上放小型CPU,
直接处理数据,不透过bus),而且要及时,(i.e.要预测),要花费
少(例如 网路封包->user space 要做到zero-copy)

Besides, which online site can I buy to avoid state tax and other fees?
(For example, I tried my old single-CPU T60 for Netflix prize challenge. For
SVD C++ code, it takes 15+ hours to run)
It seems that I need a dual-core machine.

最好还能实时。
不需要fancy/publication style的美工。
总结一下就是：糙快猛，不要钱。
试了试 Python/matplotlib， 还有R，感觉不给力。
