Shantaram - My favorite book of the year
"What kind of book the Shantaram is?" T asked me. I said it was a book about
a man who robbed a bank, prisoned because of the robbery, escaped
afterwards, traveled to Indian on a false passport, was robbed in Bombay,
lived in Slum, joined Bombay mafia, and returned to prison to finish his
sentence. "Oh, so the central idea about this book is crime." T decided.
Looking into his eyes, I knew he is no longer interested in this book.

的连细节都不用很精致，可能就是营造的氛围。

1: Eucalyptus by Murray Bail
The only good thing about this Miles Franklin and Commonwealth Writer's
Prize-winning novel is that it's short and the Russell Crowe/Nicole Kidman
movie was felled. Those bloody trees will turn you into a pro-logger by the
end of it.
2: Ulysses by James Joyce

and shantaram. johnny depp is signed on to play in the movie adaptation for
the second book, and i hope the movie would get made.
i'm guessing or will like god of small things better than ayn rand's, based
on what you said. :P

Shantaram. May check it out.
There are quite some good Indian writers. I also like Jhumpa Lahiri's
"Interpreter of Maladies".
Plan to read her new "Namkesake" soon.
