大家觉得他的第一篇文章(06年 cell)的一作Kazutoshi Takahashi有可能共享nobel
prize不?这个文章就他们两个,07年那个cell他也是一作。和blackburn/greider的端
粒酶的cell paper一样,后者就共享了nobel。按理来说如果文章就老板和一作两个人
,应该共享荣誉的。

不会吧,
如果得奖,近期内也不会只给iPS,应该是给reprogramming,
这样的话好多人要争呢。

it might sound cocky...these two papers are among the few after Shinya's
report which have made some
meaningful/real progresses in the related field...nonetheless, both are
likely far from application and may
have unsurpassed barriers in the near future...BTW, I hope someone's boss is
not doing what I was planning
on:))) but just too occupied to yet start...Damn...

think it a bit differently...what would be the easiest cells to get and also
happen to be cycling but differentiated cells...there are certainly other
cell types...however either hard to get or terminated differentiated and non
-cycling, I don't suppose anyone wants to RP cardiocyte, myofibers, neuron
or B cells for routine therapeutic purpose, agree? Shinya was saying even a
single hair may be too much for him (as he is bald) to donate for iPS...

I haven't followed the progresses closely lately...anyway, there is no doubt
in my mind, Shinya and
Gurdon(could be a third person, dolly?) deserve a Nobel...nonetheless I
think iPS is largely a hype in term of
direct usage in clinical therapy in a foreseeable/near future...As far as I
could comprehend, any hurdles ES has
to confront, So does iPS...and there are also a lot more barrier beyond what
ES faces...However, for those
terminally sick patient or people wants to take a chance/risk, anythi

and iPS for cure are hype, agree? But I am not underestimating the value

You are absolutely right about the ground-breaking contributions of Yamanka'
s to the iPSC. Thomson deserves credit for the first to isolate human ESC,
but his contributions in making human iPSC was not as great as Yamanaka.
Shinya is humble and kept telling the audience the story that it was his
postdoc's (Kazutoshi Takahashi) original idea to transduce all 20 factors
together to see if his hypothesis would work, which anyone would think to be

I know what you mean and I knew that's what you would say ...but I just don'
t think one shall compare/rank them that way...Should iPS never exist,
Thomas James' contribution would be a lot a lot more impacting on the
science and the applications, agree?? Before iPS, most people were thinking
about to use hESC to do what they are doing with iPS now...and that's why
the Huang was in line for Nobel likely together with Thomas and the scandal

非常佩服日本科学家.2009年RIKEN一个会议,Saitou, Mitinori刚发表了Bmp4的Cell
paper,一上台就说:Shinya Yamanaka是我们日本人的英雄。会上RIKEN的所有人都说,
我们要全力以赴研究iPS。
短短几年间,日本人确实在iPS领域占据了统治地位。现在iPS的应用,以及可以预见的
将来一系列经济上的专利垄断,日本人当仁不让。
