中国人在美国，真正要有自己的声音，一定要进入商业、金融、法律、媒体、政治。要不
然，收入高，教育高，最后还是为他人做嫁衣裳。中国也没什么好靠的，总不见得把这里
几十万中国人的希望都寄托在老远的一个发展中国家上。大家关心的agenda根本不同。

Arps--but my memory is kinda blurred about this one)--both from the same top
14 school. One Chinese student (of class 2006, with a joint degree from the
b-school) in the same law school received an offer from a NY firm ranked
around 80 something. |

不知道“LLM再法律界没有地位”这个结论是怎么得出来的。你去查查看有多少美国所在
亚太地区的合伙人是LLM毕业的（SKADDEN,SULLIVAN都是例子）。
对于在国外没有读过法律的人来说（美国人和在这里读其他专业的学生），JD就是读LLM
的前提。有多少美国人读LLM是一个问题，JD和LLM的关系是另外一个关系，不要混淆。

or a curse. It is quite a scary thought to picture myself slaving away the
next couple of years competing with gun-hos who aspire to bill 3000+ hours a
year. And no, the bonus is not any better unless you are at WLRK.
My biggest concern is the prospect of making partners at firms like DPW,
Skadden, STB, Cleary, etc. Perusing their websites reveals very few

Sort of make sense - it's not like they can't match financially, though
they never paid above market either. Especially suspicious is their hint
that the next year might be worse - I mean why do you have to say this other
than for the reason of wanting people to quit voluntarily?
What do you think about this theory?

这些elite firms最赚钱的业务来自于投行，现在投行已经不行了，连GS, MS都转了
bank holding了，而且裁员很多，以后他们利润下降是肯定的，那连锁反应就是elite
firms收入也会少。
另一个就是银行钱少了，credit market freeze, 没法作大的M&A, IPO了，bail out
work虽然可以补充一下，但是毕竟没有一个 quarter 好几个IPO, M&A赚钱。
这几个elite firms很依赖financial service industry，所以受影响会很大
associates.
