How to Choose a Watermelon
By KIM SEVERSON
Published: August 17, 2010
LIKE relationships, watermelons offer no guarantees. But a little wisdom
from the experts can help you choose a good one at the store.
First, find a melon that’s dull, not shiny, and uniform in shape. Odd bumps
and curves can mean it was grown with irregular runs of water or sun.
Then look for a creamy patch. It’s called the field spot — the place where

Our lesson for today comes from George and Ira Gershwin:
They all laughed at Christopher Columbus
When he said the world was round
They all laughed when Edison recorded sound
They all laughed at Wilbur and his brother
When they said that man could fly
They told Marconi wireless was a phony . . .
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers sang it in the film Shall We Dance? (1937).
Seventy-five years on, the president revived it to tap dance aro...

toughest things to do in sports by USA Today. I was wondering, besides playing

A: That’s an interesting question, Terry. Strictly from a courage
perspective, I would have to say standing in front of a hard slapper-something
in the Al McInnis 100-mile-an-hour range-would be the greatest act of bravado.
Question is: is that task tougher for the goalie, or one of his less-prot |

择了stay in his comfort zone,没有进场强攻。

But believers say to hold the melon away from your body and give it a few
good raps with your knuckles. (There are slappers, but that’s an even
tougher sound to decipher.)
Listen for a melon that sounds full and more like a tenor than a bass. A
deeper sound can mean it’s not ripe and full of water. It can mean the
center of the fruit is separated into chunks, a condition caused either by
pollination problems or by farmers trying to hurry...
