首先6月底，在繁忙的时间里，跑到了黄石公园里逛荡了3天，再加上来回时间，花了5
天的时间。在这之前，为了准备Gordon Conference——Graduate Research Seminar &
Organometallic Chemistry，做了2个poster。做poster也是磕磕碰碰的，很多内容不
熟悉。好不容易凑齐了各自16张slides，打印的时候已经很晚了，幸亏时间掌握得恰到
好处，在去黄石之前一天打印出来。然后用最后的一天，打印各种去东部，不同地点的
地图。
6月29日下午出发，去机场，被告知飞机晚点。飞到了Las Vegas之后，当地的转往Salt
Lake City的飞机不等我们，航空公司给我们安排了旅馆。第二天，安排去SLC的航班
又出问题，后来才转到西南航空公司。然后，我们又赶了提前的飞机，到达SLC已经是
下午的事情了。

and Salt Lake City? I am thinking a ski trip to Lake Tahoe and Salt Lake
City during Christmas/NewYear holidays. I will drive from SF bay area to
Tahoe and ski there for few days and then move to SLC. I know the winter
condition on I-80 west of Reno but I never drive between Reno and SLC in
winter. Do I expect the same winter condition as I-80 Sierra part? Or is it
better? |

1. 如果要去两个, 当然是冰川国家公园,
总统山,就一个景点,到此一游型的,而且比你想的要小,得多,对不太起那漫漫旅途
2. 如果去冰川，飞slc的話，如果先去黄石,可以省 ~1/3 的开车时间
如何安排,辛苦与否取决于你们全队的构成和状态,和玩乐项目.
到此一游型的1 week 当然够了, 如果有一个5星级队长,2个全天候男司机或equvalent,
然后不停的赶路...
slc 不玩一天?
不过要很放松的玩得尽兴,留下很多很好的记忆就真得花时间
一个星期玩黄石和大体顿国家公园应该可以野得比较过瘾,能爬山,露营,钓鱼,野餐就更
好了,看星, xxoo 啥的.

我经常去纽约，看你卖ski器材，想要，就是带回SLC比较麻烦。你来alta的话，要是能
在你的ski bag里把要卖的东西也捎上，我肯定要。我可以先付你钱的。我甚至可以去

FLY to SLC: 6 hours from out of Portland home to the moment get a car rental
...
then 5 hours drive from SLC to YS southgate. 11 hours already.
Fly to Bozeman or jackson saved time, but tickets for Kids and Adults can
buy you a new car...
Drive along Columbia river is fun, stop at idaho twin falls for the night. |

应该抽空),不过我是个铁血的司机,不需要休息 ;P
这里麻烦各位给指点一下,是不是线路上有点傻 一共11天,第一天开到BOISE(号称游览
BOISE城区和古堡,非常羞愧的是,我太忙了,根本没看为什么要去城区和去什么城堡)
第二天 boise 到盐湖城,这里,我是觉得可以取消的,感觉整个行程如果去盐湖城有点远
了,因为回来之后,3号我又要从OR往SF开,将近22天的行程,外加另外3个长辈. 所以我在
考虑如果这样匆忙去SLC是不是值得,还不如缩短了,让我当中休息一下.

滑雪时间可以是Dec.10-13，所以13号到家比较晚。不过我还没查滑雪票是不是必须住店当天用。
便宜机票来回都要中转，很无语。

want a stop in middle, you should pick SLC.
Hotel pick is up to you, maybe you can get a better deal on the same day.
But I don't like the feeling of not knowing where to sleep when I'm on the
road.

1. Mt. Timpanogos (两次, 一次从American fork上, 一次从Sundance 这边的Aspen
groove上). SLC的XDJM如果有兴趣,我可以带队上, 我已经summit 4 times, 2 more
times to stop at Emerald lake (peak 11749ft, 全程14~16迈, elevation gain
4600~4900ft)
2. Mt. Nebo (Wasatch 南面的最高点, 11928ft)
3. lone peak (11253ft, 一般认为这是local最demanding的hike, include scramble
4. Pfeifferhorn (11326ft) 离SLC近, 可以版聚一次. |

连UU的conference center的房间都要到14号后才有，
好不容易找了个Hotel明天住一晚，后天不知道咋办了......

发帖数: 635 | 23 在美国东西海岸，中西部和山区都呆过。最喜欢的还是盐湖城，尽管只呆了
短短一年时间。
治安，SLC downtown应该是全美大一点城市治安最好的downtown了。
航空, SLC是delta航空公司的hub，每天有多趟飞全美各大城市直达航班，极为便捷。
音乐, Utah Symphony的音乐厅真好，票价也很便宜，UU的学生可以买到4块钱半价票。
看电影，不知现在sugar house一块钱的电影院还在不在。
户外活动, 滑雪爬山国家公园一应俱全，北上黄石南下Vegas也很方便。
道路，城市规划好，东西南北横平竖直，永远不迷路。
交通，几乎不堵车，永远不为parking发愁，轻轨trax的park & ride很方便。
教育，不多说了，培养下一代最好的地方。UU和BYU也是全美知名大学。
图书馆，City library是我见过的最好的市里图书馆。
购物, 传说中的park city果然名不虚传。
住房，无论租房买房都很便宜。
气候，可能是大家有争议的地方。比较难过的应该是6 7 8三个月，比较干旱炎热，
但沙漠性气候晚上还是比较凉爽的，反正我没有用过空调。9月份就开始下雨，山顶

Choose a good school in SLC School Dist. There are less elementary-school-
aged-kids there, so better off for your 6 year old.
The key in public school system is parent's involvement. |

west nile virus的风险...provo river这些的难度对新手都比较大...
开3-4个小时车是有顶级的白水河,不过工作学业忙的人,谁有工夫每周开那么远去漂流.
..所以这个版上漂流高手应该很少...你要的那些什么moab, glen canyon地区住的中国
人更少了...
我买了你推荐的Sevylor Colorado后,就只有去小湖里划过. 这个船在湖里的表现实在
太差,根本没有办法track...
还有阿,你在CO版上说SLC中国人更mean些...我不知道你是根据什么才说的... |

在北面好远吧，不过貌似通常都是去黄石玩路上一拖一游览的地方
都是山，要再下雪的话就更不知道有什么可以看的
南北玩也不是不现实，就是路上一个人开车太boring了
从SLC往北到teton怎么得4个小时吧
从SLC到南utah怎么也得四五个小时吧
不过也得看不同人和兴趣程度了，计划安排的宽松一点，到时候会更enjoy的 |

么时候注册新学生啊？新到的居民在没有utility bill之类的证明居住地的文件之前可
以注册吗？
我的小儿子四岁，今年九月开始在现在的NYC可以上免费的PreKindergarten了，在SLC
有同样的年级可以上吗？

Morning：
Temple Square
Capitol (spectacular view of the Valley and the Mountains)
City Creek Mall
Noon:
Great Salt Lake just off I-80 in Magna
Afternoon:
Copper mine
A walk in Alta or Snowbird in the Wasatch Mountains
Evening:
City lights viewed from UofU and the Avenues |

地方停车。在SLC开车估计没有类似的问题。但我决心要把骑车的光荣传统带到SLC去。 |

What SLC has to offer:
1. much better skiing and very close to town.
2. much better place for rock climbing, and better place for ice climbing.
3. better place for mountain biking.
4. closer to Colorado for 14ers hiking.
5. Overall better weather. Much more sunshine, but hotter in summer and
colder in winter.
6. lower housing price.
7. better gun laws.
What Seattle has to offer:
1. better place for general mountaineering.

Seattle is said to be much worse than SLC. And the ski resorts are much
farther away. So I will still stay in SLC.

这儿后，已经有俩同事建议我换台四驱，可是真心舍不得卖掉我的小车，一个人又不可
能养两台。所以，我的小G能开着去滑雪么？

last choice.
your fiances' job is an unknown factor, it is hard to predict his future
company is in north SLC or south SLC, unless you guys are confident he can
get the job he wanted.
Buy or rent is a huge topic can go on and on cause it has so many
dependencies. Looks like right now you are more leaning towards renting
first and take a look at the city and new job, if that is the case, you
