儿子上一年级，每周拿回来一堆在学校做的WORKS，每周学校有SPELLING TEST， MATH
TEST。当然很简单，SPELLING TEST就是叫在家REVIEW的WORDS，大概１０个，还有５个
EXTRA WORDS，对了有EXTRA POINTS。MATH是３分钟做１５个题，SIMPLE 加减。每月拿
回家一本JOURNAL，有８个左右。每周在学校READING LOG也是满满的，至少有６本吧。
另外还有ARTWORKS， READING COMPREHENSION， MATH／ENGLISH WORKBOOK。觉得学校
管的还是挺紧的。

水到渠成的事。唯这个SPELLING BEE，LZ觉得还是见点真水平的。最后一轮比赛的时候
，20名选手站在那，老师抽着一个单词读一遍，选手要一个字母不差的拼出来，拼错一
个就要当场淘汰，所以压力还是很大的。最后孩子败给一个是南亚来的个孩子，据说这
孩子已经连续几年都是学校里SPELLING BEE第一，后来颁奖时还看到这个小孩子上小学
的弟弟，也是他们学校SPELLING BEE的第一名，兄弟俩两个第一，也是厉害。 |

如果说老大的阅读是一个非典型事例，那么老二则走的是一个普通娃的按部就班的学习
之路。
老二出生不到半岁，就和LD两地。那时候觉得她还小，也实在没有精力，就没有像老大
很小就给讲board book。 等她一岁多我们团聚后，突然发现老二比同时期的老大会说
的词少了不少。 这下一家人才急了，开始每天给她讲故事。开始她也不爱听，看两页
就跑。 后来她看姐姐老看书，也慢慢喜欢看书。
两岁多的时候，她很喜欢给她讲故事，但我发现每次给她讲故事，她都特安静，从头讲
到尾，一句话都不说，最后我问她，故事里讲了谁啊？她就说：i don't know。 于是
再讲故事，每讲一页，我会问很简单的问题，她说不知道，我就告诉她答案，然后让她
重复一遍；一些简单的故事，我念一句，让她跟着念一遍。我休假的3个月，把她从
full time daycare改成两天，在家的那3天，就陪着她做art，每天给她read book，一
个月之后，她有了一个巨大的飞跃，讲故事的时候开始问问题，讲完了，她可以简单得
重复书里讲了什么。

晚会教的，我现在教就是浪费时间，承担了老师的工作；
另外就是，学校里教的，我一定要监督好，学校里的成绩拿好了，孩子才有自信心。
或者他潜意识里还觉得拿全A+对以后申请大学有好处。（现在孩子已经全A了，三年级
以后从来没有B）
所以，他对孩子的spelling test特别上心，这几天，我坚持每天给孩子讲两道题，他
还是根本就不理我，晚饭完，就问孩子有没有作业，有没有spelling test.
我的想法是：孩子能接受什么就教什么，只要她消化得了，就应该给她加餐。
关于spelling test，她本身已经很喜欢阅读，有很大的词汇量了，不需要特别提醒，
再说，错一两个又怎么了，做点数学题，才是对脑力的煅练。已经嚼烂了的东西，有必
要再细嚼吗？
我想可能是他从小就是按部就班走过来的，比较信任学校、教育系统，以为就是按大纲
走，走好，就可以成功。
或者另一种可能就是，他忙自己的工作，不想在孩子的教育上费心，也许是我小人之心

he a top spelling champ, but he plays piano concertos, has a first-black
belt in Tae Kwon Do, and is a math champion as well.

我可没那么奉献，也没那个条件，还得养家糊口呢。
人家spelling bee，都买那套大字典，好几百美元，还买专门的软件。我儿子当年就用
一个website，可以申请free access的，我儿子就写说：我是单亲，我妈已经够辛苦了
，我不能再让她为我出这个钱...练习spelling bee，他是用的他妹妹帮忙。结果妹妹
的spelling也大涨。
这个奥数，我只给他买了那套art of problem solving。准备USAMO时，他的一个同学
给他email了很多考古题，我的贡献是帮他打印出来。

嫩的礼物：
娃们从托儿所起，在老师的指导下每年送爸妈节礼物，直到四五六年级后好像就无礼无
指导了，所以上周日娃们没动静我也不奇怪。没想到几天后还会收到姗姗来迟的礼物—
—似乎是老二的礼物节后才做好，两人又约好一起送。
大的是老二的后现代马蒂斯主义指画：
都三年级了，这语法咋还乱七八糟……
老大的画感成熟很多，还带个性签名……
她的中文字比起英文可嫩了很多：
这几样东西都是中文学校的课上准备的——那张带种子的纸，我以前从没见过，估计是
些一年生的草花？那块手工皂是她的中文老师做的，让每个学生挑一款送给妈妈。卡也
是老师买的。真是多谢那么费心的老师，不仅教书，还要倒贴包括创意、成本和手工制
作的礼物，这份心灵手巧和细密爱心太让人受之有愧了。
说起中文学校，还有一份特殊的礼物。前一阵搞了个中文识字Spelling Bee比赛，每个
年级的生字表输入quizlet，然后从班级预赛比到年级决赛，认字最多的年级组冠军获

但是同时也暗暗窃喜:) 超凡忍耐能力终于为我换来又一个令人敬畏的典藏。
听起来卑微的简直可鄙，但这其实是暗合认识论的。不首先浸淫欲
艺术电影，训练自己的口味，将来怎么能欣赏艺术电影呢？
有些电影都不用看，瞄一下海报就知道肯定值得忍受这俩(更多是三plus)小时.
强烈推荐一下电影（欢迎补充），观赏的时候坐不住可以站着，站累了可以
躺着，躺累了可以拿大顶。。。总之要让这几个小时充满思考

The spell checker register itself as spellcheck. So the other program,
when they want to perform spell check, they just call it.
UltraEdit also has a Dict wich performs the spell check, but seems can not
be used in the other software(I guess). |
