Thanks, I will try to read it.
A few more words about the problem.
If we substitute the "spherical random walk"
with "spherical brownian motion", and replace x_n with x_t (t is the time),
then
E((x_t - x_0)^2) = 2 - 2*exp(-t/2).
When t --> 0, the above value is close to t, which coincides with the planar
case.

最近课题需要用到spherical harmonic transform,但是找到的
方法都是需要至少2N个sample point才能计算出N个coefficients,
请问比较熟悉这个问题的同仁,这个overdetermined问题如何有效
解决,换句话说,给2N的时域点,得到N个频域点,再回到时域点
显然不能保证full recovery,除非事先的离散信号已经知道是bandlimited。
请问有比较好的办法,只要求同样多的数据点来做这个变换么?
多谢了。。。球坐标就是麻烦啊。

just an intuitive solution:
transform the spherical distances to radians, do 2-d random walk on a plane, then take the remainder of |An-A1|/(2pi) where Ai = (alpha_x,alpha_y) radian, and calculate the corresponding
euclidian distance.
as n goes to infinity, the expectation doesn't converge b/c of this "
periodicity" of 2pi.

既然有人争论方的学术水平,就上网搜了一下。应该说这个水平对于一个junior
faculty来说可以算是很牛B了,但是对于老方这种senior的已经搞了一辈子的人来说,
就只能算so so。不要说是院士,离aps fellow的级别也还差了不少。引用率最高的一
篇文章还是95年到了arizona之后跟老外合作的,被引118次,这也是方唯一一篇被引用
上百次的文章。可见方励之89之前确实没有做出过什么重要的工作,他的名声和地位绝
对是靠政治得来的,当然其中部分的也是80年在中国搞科普所得,必须承认科普工作也是
有重要的社会意义的。
(BTW,有人说你这个搜索未必完整。不错,确实不能保证100%毫无遗漏。但是我
用的search engine is THE search engine everybody in this community uses today.

ccd现在都至少是几百万像素了吧,肯定超过了diffraction limit,所以感光元件的分
辨率真不是问题。。。而且,ccd像素的大小肯定不是由光刻制约的,光刻现在应该正
从65nm向45nm过渡,即便是135nm node,也远远远远小于现在ccd每个cell的尺寸。。。
至于入射光的角度,但凡是超过半米的景物,基本都算是垂直入射吧,而且,防反射膜
也都是根据垂直入射光的波长来设计的。。。
至于镜头的畸变(aberration?), 肯定是有的,毕竟是spherical lens。。。但就我所
知,所有的照相机都是spherical lens,没人搞抛物线的吧,除非想把照相机当光刻机
使用。。。

spherical aberration - near the center of the lens elements, the curvature
is relatively low and the aberration between ideal and actual is pretty
small. When you stop down, the lens only sees through the well-corrected
center so you have "correct" focus. Near the edges (included in the wide
open image), spherical aberration piles up and can cause a shift in the
plane of best focus between the ideal (similar to where it would be at say
f8) and actual.

首先我得承认我不懂TEM,然后恐怕你也没懂我的意思
我比较熟悉的统计particle size的方法就是chemisorption和EXAFS
这两种方法都需要作一个geometry或者说shape的假设
当然我们可以假设它是spherical的,但是对于lz说得3nm这么小的particle,因为已经
接近原子的大小,spherical的假设已经不精确了(因外表面不再能看成光滑表面),
通常是根据金属的表面性质做一些假设,比如“111面truncated的正20面体”,等等
我想请教的是,如果是用TEM做particle size的statistical analysis,是否也要做同
样的假设?
