Chicago is Democratic and it's unthinkable that a neo-Republican, like
Giuliani, would ever be in office.
When a city has greater loyality to a political party than to their own

去年11月去电影院看大片《林肯》，发现一个怪现象，里面有很多段落台词，美国人笑
的前仰后合，我尽管也看懂听懂了，但完全不知道哪里好笑。当时想到，肯定是对很多
背景故事、典故不了解导致的（比如美国人看《建国大业》王宝强说“前面有个地主大
院攻不下来”估计也笑不出来）。上周末下载了字幕版仔细的看了一遍，对这部电影清
晰了很多。
首先列举一下电影中出现的围绕废奴问题的几个派别和代表人物
1. 坚决反对废奴派：George Pendleton议员和Fernando Wood议员。他们是国会民主党
领袖。其中Fernando Wood出身是纽约大资本家，主要想的是和南方做生意，打仗对他
影响极大。而George Pendleton和林肯除了政见不同，还是竞选对手，他作为副总统参
加竞选，刚输给林肯和约翰逊的搭配。

EBT talking about "swipin' his EBT," (welfare card) and what he can and can'

Yes, there is more open space in Shenzhen. but cleaner?! have you been
to the side streets in Shenzhen. The sanity there is appalling.
Again there are dirty puddles on the ground in NYC Chinatown too. It
smells even worse than HK. But I still dined al fresco in the
neighboring Little Italy:).. the dropping water from old AC is not a
good example of squalor.

Shirley Jackson的The Lottery。读之前别看任何评论。一本是J.D. Salinger的Nine
Stories，如果觉得多，读两篇就行了：A Perfect Day for Bananafish; For Esme --
with Love and Squalor。都有中译本，施咸荣翻译的《九故事》尤其经典。
看着楼上很多不靠谱的回答，真着急。都没看到啥篇名，就是一堆作家扯扯。 |
