when the anti-squeal shims are installed wrong or cracked. You need to know how to work with brakes though. They're the most important part of your vehicle. If you don't know how to work with them, don't try. The first time I did a brake job DIY, I almost crashed the car into a wall. =D
If that doesn't help, just try installing a new set of pads. Even if that doesn't fix the problem, you still have a spare set. |

morning. Dealer fixed it free by 50k miles. You can hear a lot more jan car
squeals in a parking lot.
VW extended warranty to 10 year/ 120k miles on the high pressure fuel pump
and some other parts of engine. |

，更谈不上什么刹车块复位耗油了。理论上是high temperature grease。能不能用
park tool那个替换，真不清楚。不过你也用在后刹了，如果没问题，那用前面也可以
。再说，在autozone，小袋的anti-squeal grease也就1块多点一袋，没必要省。 |

you can have metalic pads but that is more an exception
rather than a norm).
rotors usually get rusty overnite under wet weather (
high humidity or rain will do the magic). so when
you apply the brake the first couple of times, it will squeal.
after the rust is gone, it is OK. Don't worry about it.
a wood pads will probably be wore out or go up in
flames (more likely) in the first ten applications. :) |

2.如果还不放心,到GARAGE去查一下闸,很多是免费的,但不要说是有NOISE,
只说要查查是否安全就可以了.如果人家说没问题,你就走人吧,一路上
就只管欣赏你的MUSIC.
3.大部分因为"仅仅"是NOISE而花上1/2百换东换西的,换完后还会NOISE的,
为什么?因为工人师傅没有功夫给你严格按要求安装东东,该摸油的他不摸,

图片显示的是后杂有响声的原因之一：看到那个小白点了吧？那就是杂皮磨到一定
厚度就开始提醒该换杂皮了的东东开始接触刹车盘了（学名：wear indicator,就是
一小金属片，到杂皮薄到一定厚度时开始接触刹车盘，发出呻吟）
症状：1。金属碰撞声，象铃铛，比较脆。书上都说是 squealing.
2. 开始不明显，与踩不踩刹车没有明显关联。把车支起来，轮子空转有
偶尔一两声，不明显。
3。发病后期，铃铛声明显，不踩刹车肯定响，踩了可能会不响。
处方：1。换pads一付，涂抹‘跌打膏’少许（disk brake quiet)
预后：1。未见异常so far
后杂响声之一种，欢迎对号入坐。

另外仔细观察一下pad的表面，是否有角度或者边缘部分是否有凸起

The engine and transmission of VW last long. at least transmission lasts
longer that Honda. Looks like VW is more responsible for its product than
other manufactures. VW has extended high pressure pump to 120k miles. Not
sure others can do similar for its customers.

1. 根据zmwang的提示, google 发出“squeal”声音的原因. 很大可能是drive belt
和/或drive belt tensioner需要换了. 自己用手压belt, 感觉比较松, 所以决定先换
drive belt试试.
2. 看Youtube, 确定可以自己换.
3. 在Amazon定了Goodyear的drive belt ($26). 准备drive belt tool ($15), 19mm
socket.
4. 用drive belt tool顺时针拧tensioner上的”镙丝”(拧上方的那个, 其实是跟
tensioner一体的象镙丝的突起)放松belt. 取下旧belt. 耗时10秒.
5. 安装新belt. 空间很窄, 不好着力. 先把belt绕好在除tensioner张紧轮外的其它5
个轮子. 用drive belt tool放松tensioner 上好belt. 这个耗时15分钟. 因为刚开时

今天下午试了一辆二手车，其他各方面都挺好，就是汽车发动机启动、汽车起步和大转
弯时发动机舱有有凄厉的噪声（squealing sound）。私人卖家告诉我是上周换发电机
时同时更换的皮带（serpentine belt）噪声。据他说是皮带上有些残余的油，所以在
发电机负荷大的时候皮带会打滑发出噪音。请问各位有什么方法可以确认这个解释是否
属实呢？会不会是车有什么大问题？
车是05年的elantra，不知道那时候的韩国车可靠性怎么样？网上看看好像也挺好，也
许不能和神车比?不过这车只卖4000刀，这点钱要买神车的话只能买到01年产的...安全
性怎么样？不会还不如神车吧？
