Thanks for your inputs! I agree that an AP is not a bad choice for stduents
since usually AP's are in the most cutting edge area and motivated to work
hard. I'll consider to put a piece of advertisement in my webpage. I still
feel it's not appropriate to directly recruit students. I'm afraid students
don't like it. |

a relatively small group and makes his expectation clearly as well as
appropriately in his webpage. I think directly recruiting
students/postdocs is not inappropriate. I have seen many professors,
young and old, American or Chinese, do this at their webpages.

但读你的文字感到你的思路有些乱， 可能是刚听到系主任的信太吃惊了. 个人以为要
将重点给系主任讲出来， 以下是我的建议， 供抛砖引玉 - 版上有些老道的人， 他们
或许也会给你出主意
1. tell the chair that you are every surprised becuase the lecturer never
indicated any disappointment about your TA assistance before;
(this tells the chair that the lecturer is a spontaneous person. she should
communicate with you first, a few times, before she goes to the chair. It
is a lecturer's responsibility to ensure that TA works well, not the chair's)

A stduent will be able to file the OPT application up to 90 days before the
degree completion date and up to 60 days after the degree completion date.
至于什么样子才是degree completion貌似不是很明确，似乎答辩就可以了。交论文，或
者正式毕业的日期‘貌似’都可以在OPT开始以后了。

little chance, go to reasonal HS school to prepare for UCs or good private
colleges.
Less than 10% HS graduates can go to Ivy colleges.

发帖数: 5779 | 11 话说199x年，x大约等于789，当时的BSD的教育局长发现了以上排名的奥妙，就跟town
里极力鼓吹他的AP战略想法。town里一想对呀，排名上去了，全国有名了。更多注重学
区的人就来了。房价就更升了，收的税更多了就能让更多学生参加AP考试，就更能提高
排名。。。。就。。。。，于是决定加大AP投入。短短几年BSD五大高中不但甩开了
Redmond/Issaquah的难兄难地，而且一举超过mercer island，一时占上了华州指点。
有人还记得robinswood high吗？现在改名叫bigpicture school了。这个学校以前可是
华州垫底的学校，以至于州政府强令关门。那位说啦，既然BSD五大名校如此了得，为
什么robinswood那吗差？原来为了尽量提高AP参加率和通过率，BSD不但push average
水平的student必须参加3门以上AP,还把五大名校的较差的学生送到robinswood，以免
拖了AP的后腿。现在东区别的学区也慢慢学会了这个trick，美名契约，alternative
school.BSD鼓励学生多考AP，只要一门pass,排名就加重很多。... 阅读全帖 |

解释，95% CI，correlation coefficient，等等。 最后就是case，所谓的break-even
，不过我当时不知道，就是optimize revenue的时候别忘了expense，大概是蒙对了。 |

Stduent, salary + tuition + small benefit (medical)
Generally speaking, Postdoc will be at least 10-20K more expensive
than student.
Take overhead into account,it would be 15K-30K difference. |
