的贡献还是 N-fermion system 的 Slater determinant 。说到底这也还是个计算技巧
，没有多少物理在里面。
不过象 protein MD 这种蠢东西都能拿 Nobel 的话，Slater 拿一个也没什么大不了的
吧。 |

TF model在计算上完全没用，似乎告诉人们DFT的路子走不通；而DFT的最初程序就是从
X-alpha程序改过来的（别忘记了最简单的exchange泛函就叫Slater泛函）。
Slater的很多简单idea后来人一直在跟随发展，比如Slater transition state method。
拿不拿奖不重要，见仁见智的问题，但是说Slater教会了很多后来的人怎么做从原子到
材料的计算，应该是合适的。 |

TF model没用还有Weizsäcker修正。虽然我不知道究竟是哪个东西启发了Kohn和
Hohenberg，但程序化已经是实用技术而不是原创的范围了。。Slater exchange还有
Dirac早年的工作。。。化学家普遍比较实际，从来不缺乏具体计算人才。不知道
Slater起了多大教学作用
我觉得Slater成果很多，但特别突出的几乎没有。个人觉得，他最好的工作其实是早年
的BKS理论，因为放弃能量守恒是大胆的。不过被实验否定了。

Stockmayer died last year. He was a National science medal recipient. He won
numerous awards and like to be called Stocky. Flory and he were inspired by each
other but just didn’t follow each other. It’s well known Flory didn’t
