佐佐木常州（Joshu Sasaki）被弟子尊称「老师」（Roshi）。1962年从日本来美，逐渐在美国打开名气。除在洛杉矶开创「临济宗禅学中心」（Rinzai-ji Zen Center）和「博帝山禅学中心」（Mount Baldy Zen Center），并云游全美各地禅学中心弘扬佛法。2012年是他来美50周年，但104岁高龄身体情况大不如前，从2012年1月起即不再授课退隐幕后。
曾在1997年至2008年成为佐佐木常州弟子的马丁（Eshu Martin），2012年10月在「全面禅学」（Sweeping Zen ）网站发表公开信，踢爆恩师50年来罪行。指控佐佐木常州不但在私下与女弟子会面时乱摸，还企图拆散弟子婚姻。

不过火警训练是每年都要的。
火警响了，第一就是关门，每个门都是防火防烟的。医院的人员配置不可能做到搬离病
人。因为火警一响，就不能用电梯。现在的病人，至少1/3是不能自己走的。很多都是
完全卧床的。我们一般是6个病人一个护士，8-12个病人一个护工，能照顾独立行走的
病人走就不错了。完全卧床的病人走防火通道那是不可能的，除非是FIREFIGHTER来背
。所以只能按POLICY来做。
当然大部分是假火警。但是真要是本楼层着火了，估计只能是照顾能行动的病人逃离，
抢救剩下的病人只能是消防员的工作了。
平常把一个不能行动的病人从CART移动到床上都要4个人。你怎么抢救。
除了关门，碰到突发的火灾，所有的医院POLICY都是R〉A〉C〉E
