DBA/Developer但在工作中需要用到数据库 做一些简单的查询、删除、插入工作。 以
前就是在Oracle 10里面做 问题不大 不会的地方就查查书。 现在有新的数据在
teradata 不想看几百页的手册从头学 想找一个能快速上手的方法。 我需要掌握的内
容基本如下：

找个叫Teradata 12.0 User Documentation 或者Teradata 14 User Documentation
下下来是个exe可以自动解压的zip，里面有很多pdf叫Teradata 手册（manual？）的，
里面有很多东西，包括ModeIing，但
是它不叫ModeIing，叫design，象楼下说的那个，还有一本physical database design
，logical database model
网站的搜索功能很差，最好你用Browse by Category，在数据库那儿看看找找
manual看完你就是十项全能呢
下软件Teradata express可以装在电脑上，自带一个小型数据库，可以练手

练好了这个里面的软件你就比市面所谓的那些懂teradata的人差不多了

Appliances 26xx/27xx are less expensive. EDW 6xxx is much more expensive.
The difference is primarily number of disk spindles per CPU which yields to
drastically IO characteristic.
Teradata is in Data warehouse and BI arena. OLAP is the major strength. Not
suitable for low latency high OLTP application.
upfront cost depends on the number of nodes and configuration.
Teradata does not sell software, it sells solution, which includes hardware

发帖数: 2421 | 12 看你怎么算，如果自己管硬件和infrastructure, 这个cost不能只看硬件费用，还有
管理维护的费用， 一个Teradata 上面跑很多应用，production dba 3-4个已经是很够
用了， 硬件维护不需要雇人，unix system 不需要维护，（security hardening除外
），直接交给/teradaat省下来的人工费用比起oracle / /db2在同级别上面的应用相当
可观，否则application dba + production dba + system admin +etc. etc. 6-8个
FTE的cost就直接奔1M去了。
Teradata的弱点就是没有行业的软件，比如oracle上面有很多现成的application (
OLTP)，做CRM/Production managemnet/HR/payroll等，这些软件在oracle/db2/sql上
面很多，直接装上就用。Teradata面对的是data analysis world,既然是analysis就没

但是对于某些应用，performance不是只能好一些那么简单
至于大银行，我在美国排名第1,2,3,4,12,17的银行都做过项目，每一家都有teradata
的应用，db size 都在 hundreds of terabyte。似乎没人认为钱花的不值 |

however, if you want to have a very good random generator, you may try some
numerical libary by Fortran/C++ and then
insert the generated random value into your table, then top 1
it also not a big deal for teradata
this is a good way. Thanks.

弄了个DTS Package，然后在那个传输数据的箭头上点Property，
准备写SQL的，结果点了以后屏幕一片白，至少两个多小时才能出来对话框。
以前连Oracle什么的从来没有这么慢，一般也就是十几秒。
大家觉得是什么问题?有办法改善吗?谢谢!
哦。偶用的是SQL Server 2000。没有Upgrade这个Option。 |

export data from Teradata to formated text file.
use BCP...IN... load to your staging table in SQL Server, or use import data
wizard.
run DML to massage your data in stage.
run INSERT...SELECT... to your dest. table.

unix) and import to Oracle using build loader such as SQLLoader.
The benefit of using ODBC tool is it is simple and easy to migrate. Fast
export for Teradata is very very fast.
SQLLoader for oracle need some tuning of the table and infrastructure
parameter.
You can also use build insert (nolog no redo no undo) mode for oracle stack
tables (not index organized) .
