First off, I realize this is going to sound expensive to a lot of you for a
kitchen thermometer. But for those who are into really good kitchen gadgets
, I really recommend the Thermapen. Cooks Illustrated raves about it -- it'
s extremely fast and accurate. The Thermapens usually cost $96, and rarely
go on sale. Right now, they're having an 'open box' sale where they have
some available for $69. I've had a Thermapen for a few years now and love
it.

sale. I got an e-mail from them today that they have some open box units for
$69 plus tax and shipping. I realize a lot of folks aren't interested in
paying this much for cooking thermometers, but as an owner of a now-dead
Thermapen (pre-splash proof version... kids ran it through the dishwasher...
), I've been waiting to have an opportunity to get another one at less than
