the thomstat is an original one, from the 70s.
my son's clasmate's father works for another furnace brand, and offers me
a free thomstat, so i just curious if it will work.

sure 70 use the same color code as now.
If you have heat pump, it use a slight different kind, so make sure you get
the right one.
If you are not home a lot, get a programable one.
If you have home automation, you will need a special module or adaptor (but
you can control it over the internet or phone or remote control) |

compatible.
in my case, the furnace requires grounding, but the thermstat doesn't, I had
to replace the thermostat to stop the frequent on/off, it was quite
annoying. |
