Many authors have discussed the question why Engelbert Kaempfer (1651-1716)
presented the name of the ginky -tree in such an awkward spelling in the
Amoenitates Exoticae. Other misspellings in his book do not draw much
attention, but this one was introduced into botanic nomenclature by the

LaTeX's float (figure and table) placement decisions tries to imitate what a
professional typesetter will do. If you look through a professionally typeset
book you should notice that all figures and tables are placed at the top or
bottom of pages and not between text so as not to disrupt the text. If you
insist on having the float appear in the middle of a page, try providing the
[h] optional argument to the figure or table environments.

not grammatical logic, when typesetters put
punctuation marks inside quotes, to avoid a gap on
the baseline (underneath the closing quotation marks)
immediately before the punctuation mark of concern.
These days some people still follow the old
typesetting rules while others think that logic
should prevail, that if the punctuation mark is
part of the quote, then put it inside the
quotation marks, otherwise leave the punctuation
mark outside. |
