My previous posting talks about foreigners unaware that many things in this
world come from China (besides peach, ume (mei flower in Mandarin), pear,
apricot, all of which originate in China).
Today I was surprised to learn that Nepalese call gyaozi their own, which
they call "momos" where "s" indicates plural form. See

(1) Taiwan's military is adamently opposed to ANY civilian flight across the
Taiwan strait. I don't know if there is merit to that argument, but my
impression is US seems to support the position, at least implicitly. I am
unaware of the definition. Shanghai to Taipei may be not across the strait
but to Kaohsiung is. And Xiamen/Amoy to any point in Taiwan definitely is.

of Boston Office, Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO
). I live in Boston. And Cultural Division is staffed by a representative
from Ministry of Education (MOE), Taiwan. TECRO is staffed not just by
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but by various ministries, including Economic
Affairs and Defense.

跟我们分享一下公寓，她实在租不到一寝室的公寓了，算是给她一个方便，也许半年也
许十个月。我们不能不帮忙啊，就答应了下来。她的名字叫垂斯，非常善良的基督徒。
她的善良与柔和是我开始有时间就读圣经的起因。好在她从不给我压力去教堂，非常耐
思的一个女孩。我们可以说无话不谈，也跟她学会了如何用烤箱烤制食物，就是做西餐
。每天晚饭就坐在一起吃，边吃边聊。只要我们需要了解美国的人情世故，她都会热情

，我看过中文版，感觉很怪异，很想找原文看一看。这人写东西是比较煽，有市场头脑。
Tracy Chevalier: Falling Angels; Girl with a Pearl Earring. 看过后面这个电影
，看过她的另一本The Lady and the Unicorn，她喜欢用名画写小说，也是流行文学的
路子，不如Dan Brown那样文笔成熟，不过聊画聊古代文化，还有可看性。

生从纽约开车回New Haven，在结冰的路段和一辆失控的卡车拖车相撞，三个学生当场
死亡，重伤的六个学生中又有一个次日不治而亡。当时学校取消了一切体育活动，全校
默哀，管本科生的校长说白头人送黑头人尤其伤心，这些都是风华正茂的最优秀的孩子。
上周末，车祸幸存者之一的Brett Smith在学校教堂Battell Chapel做了个演讲，他刚
刚毕业。他车祸后大脑受损，跟不上耶鲁的学业，就先去一个community college读书
，慢慢恢复。08年再回耶鲁，从头读起，今年学成毕业。他家是教徒，他以前不信教，
因为他爸在空军里做，频繁搬家，所以他从没受洗过。他车祸住院时Battell Chapel的
pastor给他洗礼。他重回学校后就去学校教堂，他们让他做学生Deacon——我不知道这
是天主教还是新教，这些是什么职称。不过他的演讲挺感人的，无论教徒非教徒都挺受
