取决于怎么定义人工智能吧。如果是指能以很高的成功率通过图灵测试的那种,也许十
几二十年内还做不到。再往后就不好说了。当然超越图灵测试之后,还有个词叫技术奇
点(Technological Singularity),说技术一直加速发展下去,总有一天会导致超级
智能的产生,其能力、动机已经复杂到不是原始人脑所能理解掌握的了,就像物理学上
的奇点。人类后代的意识也许需要融汇集成到技术媒介(电脑)中,借助那强大的计算
能力,才能真正与那些超级智能对话。技术奇点的理论是80年代由科幻作家Vernor
Vinge提出来的,后来鼓吹这个理论最卖力的人之一Ray Kurzweil,去年底被招进
Google主持一些前沿研发。也许Google已经在为技术奇点做准备了,哈哈。

嗯,Fire upon the Deep里头给我印象最深的几点,一个是星际文明网络的通讯方式,
灵感来自互联网早期的Newsgroup,跟今天BBS灌水也有一拼;一个是Zones of
Thoughts的设定,银河系由内而外划分出来的区域,物理规律的不同会导致智慧能力的
巨大不同;一个是那些狼群的群体智慧生命。
突然想起来我十几年前还写过一个介绍,找了下还能找到:

这个标题中, The Deep不单是抽象地指宇宙深处, 也可以指
银河系的四个区域之一. 好的科幻小说应能创造一套理论并
自圆其说. 这部小说的主要创造便是这四个区域的划分: 银
河系按由内至外按照离银核距离的远近, 分为The Unthinking
Depth, The Slow Zone, The Beyond, The Transcend四个区
域. 银河系中的智慧生命通常发源于The Slow Zone, 这里的

俄罗斯这起抢匪反成性奴的“奇闻”,故事情节有如电影黑色追缉令一般。
想要抢劫,却反成为性奴,对抢匪来说,真不知是福是祸?!(恐怕要取决于女方的长
相)一名32岁的俄罗斯男子查辛斯基(Viktor Jasinski)日前打算抢劫莫斯科的一间发
廊,没想到反被女老板制伏,还成了她的性奴,而且在这期间,女方为了让他保持高昂
的战斗力,只给他吃威而钢。
根据英国每日邮报(Daily Mail)报道,这名28岁的女老板萨恰克(Olga Zajac)是一
位空手道黑带高手,所以在查辛斯基抢劫时,轻易的就将他击倒。
接下的情节,就有如名导演昆汀塔伦提诺(Quentin Tarantino)的经典作品黑色追缉令
(Pulp Fiction)一般。萨恰克将半昏迷的劫匪拖到发廊后的房间,并且把他衣服扒光
,再以吹风机的电线将他绑起;而之后的3天,更是把查辛斯基当作性奴,替他“好好上
了一课”。
被释放后的查辛斯基,赶紧向警方报案,现在两人都已遭到警方逮捕。但萨恰克被捕时
,竟然还大言不惭的表示:“什麽鬼啊!我们是做了几次爱没错,但我让他离开时,不
仅送了条新的牛仔裤跟食物,还给了他1,000元卢布耶!”

如果你觉得刘慈欣的“维度攻击”是“无厘头”,那么那么我很难理解你会推崇Vernor
Vinge的“深渊上
的火”--其中高潮部分的“界区”攻击,不就是利用“高等文明无法在低等界区存在”
这条公设么?一样的
天马行空,和“降维供给”有什么本质区别么?

客观的说,《三体》三部曲在中国凋零的科幻作品中尚可已读
但远未达到其粉丝所称的大师的程度,其构思和笔力差太多了。
1、以半人马座存在的3体系统而言,不适合生命的进化,特别是在与太阳系临近,也是
类太阳的主序星,其化学元素组成也应是上一次超新星的残余物,也就是说,生命化学
元素组成相近。其3体系统对于行星进化而言,是超级大灾难,根本无法支撑几百个文
明的兴起和进化。基本上,连高等生命的产生也是几乎不可能的。
2、对质子的操作,及对地球的攻击,已经超出了硬、软科幻的范畴,甚至科幻的范畴
,缺乏技术上的前瞻支持,也缺乏科幻理念上的突破,不如说是玄幻。
3、对于宇宙维度的进一步展开,脱离了逻辑性,把高维度的世界和战争等同于低维度
,对于科学小白推广宇宙维度的科普名词尚可,但对于科幻迷和对理论物理有所涉猎的
人来说,其构思和笔力远远不够。尤其是维度攻击,更是无厘头。

俺上回得了Amazon的一张cupon, 买了三本书, 分别是
Greg Bear的Darwin's Radio,
Neal Stephenson的Cryptonomicon,
Vernor Vinge的A Deepness in the Sky.
今天一看三本书居然都得了本年度的雨果奖长篇奖提名,
俺可真是独具慧眼呀, 呵呵.
现在正在看Darwin's Radio, 感觉还是很不错的.
A Deepness in the Sky还没有看, 不过如果能写到它
的前集A Fire upon the Deep 那种深度, 那今年的雨
果奖毫无疑问就是它了.

科幻大奖巡礼(3)约翰.坎伯纪念奖(下)
2000年的JWCMA 于七月七日晚间颁奖,会场同样是由詹姆斯.耿恩主持。荣获
今年度JWCMA 桂冠的是凡纳.文区(Vernor Vinge)的《天际深渊》(A
Deepness in the Sky)。第二名、第三名分别由桂格.贝尔(Greg Bear)
的《达尔文电波》(Darwin's Radio)及诺曼.史宾拉德(Norman Spinrad)
的《温室之夏》夺下。另外还有两座「荣誉奖」,得奖的分别是彼得.瓦兹(
Peter Watts)的《海星》(Starfish)和杰克.威廉森(Jack Williamson
)的《矽晶匕首》(The Silicon Dagger)。这五部作品除了《达尔文电波》
外,全部都是由托尔出版公司(Tor Books)发行,再度证明该公司十馀年来
在科奇幻出版界无法撼动的龙头地位。而获得前两名的作品,也同时入围今年

关于cyberpunk的起源, 除了William Gibson那部Neuromancer
是比较公认的开山之作以外, 在这之前是谁启的蒙好象争论比
较多, 我上次看到的一种说法是Vernor Vinge在1981年写的短
篇小说True Names.

何况科幻小说里还要描写人类以外形形色色的智慧生命. 你当然也可
以假设有些别的智慧生命形式也有性别之分, 彼此之间的感情可以和
人类的爱情进行类比. 这里我所说的性别是指参与繁衍后代缺一不可
的若干个干体间的区别, 那些和繁衍后代无关的特质不应称为性别.
阿西莫夫的The Gods Themselves描写了一种极为奇特的, 基于不同
的强相互作用而生存的生命. 那是另外一种物理基础上的生命, 有三
种性别, 三个配成一组后彼此之间也能形成强烈深厚的感情. 当然小
说里这三种性别各有不同的个性, 一个是感性的, 敏感脆弱, 喜欢感
情用事, 用"she"称呼; 一个是理性的, 精密严谨, 擅长学习思考;
一个是父性的, 坚韧宽厚, 用于哺育后代; 后两者都用"he"来称呼.
读者感动于这份感情的时候若想代入, 性别认同的问题倒还不是太严
重.
Vernor Vinge的A Fire Upon the Deep里头描写的那种由类似狼的一
种动物形成的群体意识也很有意思. 一头一头独立的狼只有零散的脑
部活动, 没有清醒的意识, 要四至八头狼在很靠近的距离内组成一群
才能构成一个能思考的意

这位评论者下了不少功夫,除了发表自己的意见,还把别人的相关评论也链接
在同一网页里,查阅极其方便。这份敬业精神实在实在令人佩服。
长篇我都没看过。想起来我一般是要等到有网上书店的coupon才会买长篇小说,
偏偏这几年经济不好,没有书店发coupon了,所以一直没买新书。ft。
长中篇我最喜欢的是 "The Cookie Monster" by Vernor Vinge。也许这个小
说本身没有那么强,但我就是喜欢这个作者,呵呵。
短中篇我最喜欢的是 "The Empire of Ice Cream" by Jeffrey Ford。震撼人
心的结局,令无数读者食不下咽。:P
短篇我最喜欢的是 "The Tale of the Golden Eagle" by David D. Levine。
前面DaNee说得很对,熟悉科幻史的论者很多都把这篇小说的风格追溯到黄金
时期的科幻作家Cordwainer Smith身上,而作者本人也承认这是Smith风格:

Sorry for replying so late. :] You may look at the following link for

Perhaps you can start with his short stories before you decide whether
you like him or not (e.g., The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge).
I think his latter works may be more polished as he's becoming more
adept at handling the plots and improving his writing style. But I
really like all of his works, since I think he is all about ideas.

还是觉得属于顶尖之作。同作者的Cryptonomicon
呵呵,第一部容易印象深刻。你喜欢Neal Stephenson的话,Vernor Vinge
和Charles Stross你也许也会喜欢。


The Man in the High Castle出名主要是因为它是Alternate History中
的代表作。Alternate History作品往往比较黑暗,与现实历史的差别如果
不能读者带来代入的快感,很多读者就不会喜欢。

Hyperion是Dan Simmons初涉科幻领域时的第一部作品。Dan Simmon作为一
代奇才,在每个领域一开始写,第一部作品就能得上这个领域的大奖。从恐
怖小说的大奖到奇幻小说的大奖一路得过来,到写科幻的时候编故事的笔法
已经很纯熟了。Hyperion一出来果然又得了科幻大奖雨果奖,但作家的激情
很难持久吧,所以这个系列也就开头两部可以看看。

这些是传统科幻经典,就不用多说了,呵呵。

前一阵看了Rainbows End。
先交代一下俺评Sci-Fi主要靠下列标准:(1)主题想象水平,(2)人物塑造,(3)
讲故事的技术,(4)语言意境。
主题:主要技术是现在的ubiquitous computing之扩展。这要发IEEE杂志上该算是惊天
动地了,跟CS类的硬科幻比起来还是感觉平常。Belief circle的题材本来不错,非要
一而再再而三的渲染,最后看得烦了,只好大段跳过。
人物:比较不寻常的一点:大半人物是老头老太太,而且最后是这群CS界老帮菜挽救了
世界(Vinge从SDSU退休后不服气?)。顾诗人推敲自己诗歌创作的意识流部分,虽然有
斧凿痕迹,塑造也不特别生动,在硬科幻也算难得的尝试。
讲故事:开头很精彩,到了一半大场面撑不下去了。最后那个不是豹尾,是老鼠尾巴...

前几年Vernor Vinge在IEEE Spectrum上发了一段故事,叫做
Synthetic Serendipity,当时就传说这是他正在写的长篇小
说Rainbows End的其中一段。我一看这消息,很兴奋,马上告
诉《科幻世界》的一位编辑,还把Synthetic Serendipity的
全文传给了他们,虽说我觉得这一段没什么故事性。后来他们
研究了一下,说这一段确实没什么故事性,还是不发了。也好,
现在据说他们正在翻译Rainbows End的全文,一次发完全文,
可以让粉丝们满意了,呵呵。

刚看完这篇今年雨果奖长中篇奖入围的小说,感受到的冲击和七八前看到Charles
Stross第一个生猛中篇《龙虾》(Lobsters)一样大,大到我觉得有必要专门写一篇介
绍的地步了。按传统分类法,这个小说也可以算是技术派赛伯朋克(cyberpunk)的巅
峰之一了。这篇小说的题目显然是在向Vernor Vinge 1981年写的那篇开创赛伯朋克流
派的同名小说致敬,但除了题目一样以外,故事、人物都完全没有关系。不过“赛伯朋
克”是比较传统的说法。要按现在流行的说法,这个小说属于“后奇点”(post-
singularity)范畴。传统的赛伯朋克至少讲的还是人的故事,就算故事完全发生在虚
拟环境里,那些虚拟环境中的形象毕竟都是现实生活里对应的活生生的人的化身。而这
篇新的True Names,里头的环境就是无所不在的计算介质(computronium),而那些带
有不同动机、性格、行为特点的角色,就是在计算介质中运行的一个个进程、子进程的
意识,而不是现实人类的化身。
故事开始的地方,是一个在太空中飞行的彗星。彗星内部已完全被改造成计算介质,其
中运行着形形色色的称为精灵(sprite

现在读起来还是觉得挺引人入胜。
里面许多概念在现在看来已经是被大众科幻作家信手拈来的基本前提。
作者在1981年能提出这些并详细描述,确实让人佩服。
虽然结局不出意外,但中间主角二人推测不动声色地控制网络
是地外生命有效地摧毁人类社会的想法比较有趣。
虽然不如大刘的二维打击华丽,但也确实不失为一种实惠的方法:)

In 1:16-17 Paul tells us why he is unashamed of the gospel and eager to prea
ch it, not only in Rome (1:15), but everywhere he goes. The reason is that t
he gospel is the power of God to save everyone who believes; it is the very
revelation of the righteousness of God!

Why Does God Strive?
In the very context of the first expose of man's wicked heart, which the Cal
vinist offers as proof of Total Depravity, we hear God saying, "My spirit sh
all not always strive with man" (Genesis 6:3). How can there be a real "stri
