of the time is ~65%, invests in mostly good quality US large cap value
stocks, quite similar to VEIPX. Its bond sleeve is mostly investment grade
corporated bond, similar to VFICX. |

Your AA is about 70/30 from fist glance, light on international, VWELX is 60
-65% stock, 35-40% bond allocation fund, mostly US large cap, light on
international, close to your AA. Not exact, but similar. With its rock solid
management and rock-bottom fees, it is tough to beat for a similar
portfolio using index funds, unless you use different asset mix. And I do
not like US small cap going forward. I will not be surprised at all if

bond allocation is lower, and bond universe is not just treasury. While
VWELX is pretty much fixed allocation fund, they do change makeup in their
bond sleeve, such as bond duration and sectors, that is why I paid them for. |

active managed funds performance with index, one should use asset weighted
average, rather than equal weighted average. That is, you cannot treat say
VWELX, and a no-name bad performer equally, because VWELX has 100 more asset
under management than the other one. Treating them equally effectively says
investors will put equal amount of dollars to these funds, which is just
plainly stupid assumption.

接列出的expense ratio要高出0.04%. 有谁知道这个是不是broker commission fee?
另外似乎broker提供的基金选择更多一点。但不知道在基金公司直接开帐户有没有什么优势。

你如果觉得60stock/40bond对你口味，你可以选VBINX(Vanguard Balance Index)，或
者是Life Strategy Moderate Growth.
如果你偏好非Index的， 你可以选VGSTX(vanguard star)或者VWELX
如果你喜欢40stock/60bond，可以选VWINX(非Index mutuan Fund)或者Life Strategy
Conservative Growth.

发帖数: 2964 | 22 VWELX as core, use VGTSX or VFWIX to add international exposure (VG has no good active foreign funds), use VBMFX to get desired bond allocation if needed, use VEIPX, VDIGX or VDAIX/VIG to reach desired US allocation. They all invested in strong large-cap US multinationals. US Mid/Small Caps are richly valued, not a good place to be longer term (7-10 years), may be good as a trade.
Complicated? Then use VIG/VEU/BND to cover US/Foreign/Bond, use VBR for your play money.

turnover will be higher, they cannot hold bond forever. 35% STCap unless

with value bend especially VWINX. They also mostly hold a lot of corporate
bonds. For a few basis point higher than their relevant index funds,
although not guantanteed, they stand to have a good chance to continue
outperform, in spite of their bloated AUM.

Definitely higher risk than pure Bond Fund, of course, higher risk, higher
potential return. But with the stock market at all time high, do you think
it is a good time to switch all my bond funds to a few funds like Vanguard

for any long term investors regardless of age. I can totally see your point
(imagine the folks at Permanent Portfolio who are sitting on a pile of
long term treasuries. You have to admire their strong stomach.) But just

, seems a lot, but it is only 0.18% difference, a small hurdle to overcome.
In terms of cost, 1% cost differential is a lot. But if I want to get Asian
exposure, I won't use VPACX, although its cost is low (0.26%). I will pay
about 1% extra to guys who understand Asian market.

Usually these products (even from a bigger company) have high fee and 6% is
not guaranteed.
The best vehicle for retirement is Roth IRA. Max out Roth IRA first.
Then traditional IRA/401K.
A simple portfolio of 50% VWINX (40% stock, 60% bond) + 50% VWELX (60% stock
, 40% bond) can beat the 6% return.
You can check their performance at Yahoo finance.
Both of them have long history. |
