SD是我和我先生来美国后住的第四个地方，现在住的也是我们买的第四栋房子。这是我
们慢慢学到的一点经验。想到哪儿写到哪儿吧，供大家参考。
第一栋房子在东北农村。买的时候八万多，（现在也就十几万）。那loan officer居然
建议我们借了second loan。那房子是粉红的地毯，当时我们买的时候觉得状况还很好
，所以我们就没换了。（后来卖房子时，许多人一看到粉红色的地毯就走掉了。）那淡
粉色我们觉得还行，后来买家具时就尽量去配那个地毯，后来搬家了后就觉得家具不配
了。所以买家具要有远见。
我们那栋房子是那条街上最贵的，后来卖的时候却卖不出太高的价钱。所以尽量不要买
街上最贵的那栋房子，因为comparable高不到哪里去。你不喜欢的地方以后也常常是别

Los angeles is no good, neither is most cities in texas
SF is walkable, the public transit is sketchy as fuck

I am originally from Los Angeles. I have lived in many places, including the
Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic, as well as in Europe. I have to say that I
consider Boston one of the TOP places to live, especially if you are looking
for a walkable, manageable city, culture and arts events, and the ability
to live car-free. I certainly could never have lived that way in Los Angeles

和新建房数量及其不协调。
新一代的年轻人毕业来到湾区工作的，已经基本上不可能承受得起single family
house,向更远的郊区扩张，在更远的地方建很多single family house不是解决方案，
也不可能解决大部分新增人口的需求。
在中国，印度移民眼里，美国梦仍然意味着住在single family house，但是美国，新
一代的年轻人，至少来湾区闯荡的年轻人对住在single family house一点吸引力都没
有，正是因为从小长在大农村的single family house，才想追求一种和自己父辈不同

Evanston跟其它郊区比是很特别的，它是城市和郊区的结合。在这里公共交通非常方便
，downtown很大很都市很热闹，非常Walkable。这里居住的人有富人、学生、白领，也
有相当部分的亚裔人群。大家说乱的地方指的是Evanston高中附近的区域，那里的确有
些问题，但是并不影响Evanston其它部分地区，这里大部分地区是安全的。这里有一半
以上的小学学区都不错，高中学区学生成绩相差悬殊，亚裔的学生成绩还是非常不错的
。两居公寓20－40万，好去独栋房子50万以上。
Wilmette在另外一个很好的高中学区，东部价格昂贵80万以上，西边还可以，有40万左
右的房子。
Skokie, Niles, Morton Grove是比较普通的郊区，购物比较方便，但是城市文化比较
“朴素”一点，房子也没有风格和特点。完全不Walkable。学区还可以。
Wilmette再往北湖边的区域winnetka,glencoe是纯粹的富人区，基本在百万以上，偶有
30万的公寓和40万的townhouse。

发帖数: 2370 | 16 今天单车探水边。。。感到edgewater没我想象的整齐，有好几处工地，荒地 还有若干
巨大的储油罐点缀其中。几个mall都不连成片，从一个出来就要融入昼夜不停的river
road，挪到下一家。 整个town北至fort lee，南临west new york,是一个细长条，从
水边到悬崖底就两步路，真是有长度没宽度。
感觉不算walkable,过river road想象中很困难。 不过好多人都说非常walkable,存疑
中。。。话说回来，有书店的town真是很难得的，我还是看好住这里，呵呵
看了几家apartment，包括 avalon,river club;比jc waterfront要便宜一些，内部也
不错。north bergen的 half moon也不错，这几家现在都有one month free.
Mitsuzwa今天去了，food court最里面的那家面店便宜好吃，买个牛肉饭还送salad,
miso soup,和泡菜，还有三种茶水随便喝，感觉不错。
确实那个parking lot极端变态，窄的不象话，做单车棚还差不多。里面很漂亮，中国

palace of fine arts: Marina Blvd@Yacht Rd. Free parking on weekends. Good view of the golden gate bridge, palace of fine arts is across the street. walkable to fisherman's wharf if you want a hike along the beach (but a bit far).
golden gate bridge: north side of the bridge, free parking.

you mentioned above has airport noise, but SSF and San Bruno are worst due
to plane take-offs.
SSF, take a look at the ArchStone apartments near SSF BART station. They
seem to have good management and walking distance to shoppings. I used to
live near there, walk to Costco, Trader Joe's, Hospital, BART, Pacific

1 运动减少，肥胖比率增高，在美国，依赖小汽车城市的肥胖率大大高于纽约等高密度
城市。
2 交通事故增加，美国的车祸死亡率是公共交通发达的日本的3倍。美国本土高密度城
市（如nyc）死亡率低于低密度城市（houston）
3 城市sprawl，缺少公共生活空间，也是很多人觉得大部分汽车主导的美国城市比欧洲
亚洲城市缺乏生活气息，更加“村”的原因，楼下就有便利店，半夜下楼买夜宵的生活
在绝大多数汽车主导的美国城市是奢求。
4 老人，残疾人生活相对不便。
walkability也是衡量城市生活质量的一个重要指标，这点上大多数美国城市做的很差。
过于汽车化不一定带来生活质量的提高。公共交通和汽车各有优缺点，从可持续发展来
