Starved Rock State Park在Illinois，跟Iowa隔着密西西比河，但距离四城也就是一
个半钟的路程，就算在四城的景色吧。那位说了，这是公然强占的行为，哎，这么说不

沿着I-80一直往东，从四城开出去大概70miles，就到了Starved Rock State Park。这
个公园出名的是小瀑布特别多，但是，也算是欺名盗誉吧，今天到了那里才发现这个季
节没有水。要看瀑布的话，得初春的时候去。不过，Visitor Center的老先生很诚恳地

地面，墙壁，天花板都是大理石，玉石，丝绸，金，白金还有油画；随处都是艺术品
真的很震撼。
听着耳机里断断续续的讲解，让我更加对vanderbilt家族的兴衰感到好奇
这个家族必定鼎盛一时，所以才能够挥金如土，修建这么多summer "cottage"
但追踪没落，使得他们无法持续拥有这些豪宅而选择赠送给preservation society。

今年曼哈坦的國慶煙火將出現近年來最炫麗的畫面，哈德遜河面發射將在25分鐘的時間
內，發射4萬發煙火，在河面1000呎爆發的煙火有些呈現水母狀，有些如花蝴蝶，更特
別的是有一枚煙火有如眨著眼睛的笑臉。
為梅西百貨公司籌備這個煙火大秀的企畫者，挖空心思，前往世界各地採購有創意的國
慶煙火，籌辦者前往的採購地包括中國、葡萄牙、西班牙和馬爾他。
籌辦者將在西24街道42街的哈德遜河面，分別從四艘駁船發射煙火，發射煙火的同時，
葛萊美(Grammy)音樂獎得主Usher將擔任DJ播放愛國歌曲和流行音樂。
這場煙火大秀的共同設計人蘇沙 (Gary Souza)表示：「這場煙火秀一開始，可能看來
有些混亂，但是會愈來愈精彩。」
曼哈坦中城帝國大廈的燈光最近升級為LED燈光，在發射煙火時，帝國大廈的LED燈光也
將配合展出燈光秀。

. Most time you can't see office buildings because they are all hiding
behind some woods. good gym and nice neighborhood and a very cute downtown
with a pretty waterway similar to San Antonio.
学区很好, and it has good private school too.
It's a good living if you don't have to commute to Houston downtown to work.

Full Ironman 游泳的路线，从本地一个海滩的最南端出发，折向内陆和海滩之间的水
道，一般被叫做Intracoastal Waterway，然后在一个marina上岸。以往两届比赛的
Full Ironman，下水时都赶上涨潮，理论上讲哪怕躺在水里，两三小时后潮水也能把你
冲到游泳的终点。所以这次主办方的宣传材料强调 "you'll ride the friendly tide
all the way till T1".
不想开赛前一天的吹风会上，主办方沉痛宣布：因水文情况的变化，Full Ironman赶上
了死水，而Half会遇到涨潮。当时会场上一大半的人兴高彩烈，一小半的人痛不欲生。
有位女士当场站起来，说自己就是冲这潮水才报名Full，现在能不能改成Half。
后来游泳的结果，Full的最好成绩比往年慢了２０多分钟，而Half最快的一位在水里25
分钟就上岸了，笑称连肌肉都还没来得及活动开。
"The friendly tide"就成了比赛后Full选手常挂在嘴边的一个笑话。

AUSTIN– The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has issued a temporary
closure to saltwater fishing along parts of the Texas coast to protect
resources during freezing weather conditions. The closure takes effect at
noon Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 and extends through noon on Saturday, Feb. 5,
2011.
