Jack Wieland, pictured below. His mum Kristie went into labour yesterday
and emergency services could not reach her. Callum was born at 4.54pm. A
shoelace was used to tie his umbilical cord. He was delivered by Ms Wieland'
s husband Andy and a neighbour. Conditions prevented emergency personnel
reaching them last night, which they spent at home

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow wants the U.S. State Department to reverse its
decision to deny an emergency visa to the family of a Michigan State
University visiting scholar from China who died Wednesday.
Na Yu, 26, was pulled from a pool at an MSU athletic facility on Feb. 26.
She was taken to Sparrow Hospital's intensive care unit, where she died
Wednesday.

特色的艺术家。然而，对于歌剧爱好者而言，很少有人会否认，女高音艺术的最高荣誉
属于Maria Callas。她不仅是一位伟大的戏剧歌唱家，还是那个时代最具有吸引力的舞
台表演艺术家。实际上，在她过早离去后的10年间，换言之，在她最终出现在歌剧舞台
（1965年于Covent Garden上演Tosca）之后的20年间，她依然左右着我们对歌剧演员艺
术水准的观念。也许她曾经激怒过很多歌剧院的经理人员，然而，她给观众留下了不可
磨灭的印象，并得到了广大同行的无限敬仰。

那种拖沓的感觉。不过对于录音还是不能适应。
虽然录音师Wilkons和Culshaw都是传奇的人物，Decca的技术也优于他们
的对手EMI,但是由于当时总体技术的限制，比如单声道，拜罗伊特不许麦
克风干扰观众，使得这个录音还是比较影响欣赏的说。
这个录音在1999年才有Testament发行，也是有些背景的。1951年拜罗伊特
音乐节在战后第一次重开，瓦格纳家族的新掌门人Wolfgang和Wieland踌躇
满志，不但拉来了强大的演员阵容，也搞来了两位指挥，老派的克纳和新派
的卡拉扬。克纳指挥《帕西法尔》，卡拉扬指挥《名歌手》，两人各演一
场指环，用同样一批演员。
顺便提一下，这次音乐节还拉来了福特温格勒指挥了贝多芬第9交响曲，也
就是后来EMI“世纪名录音”系列里面的那个著名演奏。
EMI的制片人Legge跟瓦格纳家族那里要来了卡拉扬的名歌手和指环（51和
52年）的现场录音权。Decca和德国的Teldec合作，得到了克纳帕西法尔
的现场录音权。两家人家的两部戏都有对方的签约歌手，所以也达成了谅解
