There are many ways to test whether it is Normal. The easiest way is
by drawing a Quantile-Quantile plot against a normal distribution
which should show a straight line if the data does follow normal.
Another way is exactly as you described. It is equal to testing
one of the many implications of a normal distribution. Also, you can
try to use the so called Shapiro-Wilkes test to test normality.
By the way, when the independence test pass, you should ACCEPT
normal assumption, instead of rejecting

紫杉醇(TAXOL)作为CHEMOTHERAPY有10年左右了。1971年从Pacific yew's bark
(Taxus brevifolia) 中提到。

中提浓度高但KILL THE PLANT。现在从同一属植物的NEEDLES AND BRANCHES 中
提结构相似物然后化学修饰的方法生产。(SEMISYNTHESIS) 因为NEEDLES AND
BRANCHES 是可以再生的,虽然其含量较低。
几年前国内试过大规模培养Pacific yew,以及植物细胞培养的方法。
现在可能在培植上有所突破吧,至于新的提取方法,偶持怀疑态度.

请google: multivariate ANOVA..
简单的说,你这5个response variale如果是independent的,那很好办啦,就一个一个的
做ANOVA就行了(不过你要adjust significant level)..
而MANOVA就是把这5个response当作一个vector,然后去比较你这A,B,C,D的response
vector有没有significant different..而test用的方法基本都是非参的方法..
SAS里面实现MANOVA的例子:
PROC GLM DATA=RAWDATA;
CLASS GROUP;
MODEL Y1 Y2 Y3 Y4 Y5 = GROUP;
manova h=_all_ / printe printh;
然后你的output会有,Wilks' Lambda,Pillai's Trace,Hotelling-Lawley Trace等方法
的test结果..你自己选一个用就行了.

就是我现在做一个东西,必须要用paired T-test和one-way repeated measured ANOVA
来做(因为要check一些对应数据的mean是不是相同)。
做之前要check assumptions,但是我有2、3组数据算出来的关于difference的结果,不是normally
distributed。
那个Shapiro-Wilk的p-value是<0.05的。
但是从qq plot来看,observations对应的点还是大致成直线的。
这个该怎么办呀?

补充点,对于某些distributions有很多hypothesis testing的方法可以检测数据是不
是符合,譬如最常见的就是normality tests: Shapiro–Wilk test啊,pearson's啊
,等等。你的candidate distribution是些常见的distribution的话,先去google有没
有现成的这些test,不行的话再可以用我上面提到的方法。

univariate 的话,shapiro wilk test 足够好了。 程序采用Royston的近似方法, 结果中包括test statistics 和p value。

看你样本量大不大了。大的话就用two sample z-test吧。小的话可以先做一下Shapiro
Wilk Test (univariate) 或者画个QQ plot,差不多过的去的话就two sample t-test
吧。rank test也是可以考虑的,比较robust但是power小了点。也可以考虑一下
bootstrap.

用proc power还是proc glmprower?
简单说明一下,我simulate了3组data follow multivariate normal,每组有5个obs,
3个variable。做了hypothesis test(SAS 给出的4种test wilk's lambda,lawley
hotelling,pillai,roy's largest root) H0:no group effect。然后重复1000遍
后得到了type I error rate,但如果我想得到power怎么求呢?

Like in general, I just kind of know how to use them in practice, like:
Durbin-Watson statistic should be > 2 in order for not autocorrelated
Shapiro-Wilks is for testing null hypothesis normality
Do you have to know in theory like why those are the cases?

The p-value tests for Normality (kolmogrov-smirnov and shapiro-wilks) are
good indicators of whether data are truly Normal, but the are NOT good
indicators of whether you can use the data in ANOVA or Regression. These
tests will always be significant for large sample sizes, even if the data
are only slightly skewed, and the ANOVA is robust to non-normality for large

EM没有理论论证全局最优的概率,to the best of my knowledge
记住一条,EM这类方法,不属于概率论范畴,属于随机过程,因为它用了指示器(可参
考随机过程计算方法算法导论之类的),所以很难给出理论确界和最优解概率。一般说
无限趋近最优解。
在GMM条件下,倒是有人系统测试过EM的解和最优解有多远
另外MLE本来就没道理的,就是通俗说法的屁股决定脑袋。就算解出全局最优,对参数
估计也是imperfect solution,至于后续Wilk's theorem,也是asymptotic的,所以LZ
就别要求太高了
LZ这种情况,没法用时序或者频域作分析,用EM是比较理想的
靠,说了一堆,回头看发现对LZ没啥帮助,还是疑似我老马甲的YueJia讲得好
