楼梯咋办？
1，不换。（省事）
2， 将原有的松木楼梯板用砂纸打新，刷漆。（省事，但不一定好看，松木没木纹，而
且软）
3，加硬木楼梯板在原有的松木楼梯板上。（现在最普遍的方法）
4， 拆掉原有的松木楼梯板，换硬木楼梯板。（太专业，太麻烦。很少有人这么干）
比较上面，大多数contractor 选2 或3.
选2是因为省事，做的不好没关系，说是因为你原楼梯 板不好。你为省钱。
选3费时而且需要一定技术，尤其是刷漆。刷漆看似简单，但技术含量高，尤其是stain
， 特别是在 oak上stain。要想刷匀需要技术，也就是说需要多练习。（以后单说wood
finishing）
好，下面说方法3. 一看图你就知道很简单。方法3又有B,C,D.

hold the nail very well.
In my experience, liquid nail is very strong. Is that what you
The liquid nail is too thick for fine furniture.
If glue is too thick, the wood is very hard to absorb it into the wood.
Most time I use Titebond wood glue. |

弹簧这个问题你要考虑到一般美国人换房的时间是10年不到。
：Metal Framing 的 cost 比 wood framing 只多 15% 其实。
：但这个国家就是体制天灭，因为 contractor 的行业私心。。。一个例子就是让
：contractor 给换车库门弹簧，contractor 只会换十年寿命的，也就是最短寿命的那
种。。。要上三十年寿命的弹簧，contractor 就 mark up price 非常多，几乎可以相
当于收 100% 的手续费。。。说白了就是巴不得弹簧十年坏掉，这样有饭吃。。。而一
般大众又不懂。。。当然这还是有国家行规的前提下，否则大部分 contractor 巴不得
给你换三年寿命的弹簧。
：确实是体制天灭，不过换啥国家都差不多。。。唯一的一次例外，是当年的日本车用
汽车寿命灭掉了美国三大汽车。。。后来美国汽车也只好延寿。。。否则我们现在汽车
也得五年一换，不换就路上死机。 |

我觉得shutter挡光，一格一格的。我非常喜欢房间里明亮，白天把窗帘都拉开，
shutter好像不太方便开关，blinds似乎拉上拉下容易些。所以我想选blinds. 尽管
shutter看起来很漂亮高贵。

years, the green fade away. You should ask someone with more experience to
help you out.
Crosscut the wood and look at the rings. If you see a green (or whatever
color was used) ring around the wood, its pressure treated. If you don't it
may or may not be. |

smooth after powerwash, the wood is kind of fuzzy if you know what I meant.
A spray only job is ok if you plan to sell the house soon (will look good),
but a back brush job will make it the paint job last just a few years longer.
You can brush without spray, but could take a long time, if you are not so
good, some will drip on the grass as you try to get more paint on the brush
each time after you seeing the progress you m |

个cedar的privacy fence.(我是fence boards一块一块的钉,不打算用现成的fence
panels).
打算用wood screw来连接 2x4 rails 和 4x4 posts.大概估计了一下,我可能需要上600
多镙丝,如果镙丝太长的话,估计安rails要花不少时间.但又不想偷工减料搞得最后
fence长坚持不长久.想问问版上DIY过 wood privacy fence 的牛们,你们一般是用什么
size的呢?

一个70年代初的老房子，crawl space foundation。 在朋友的帮助下，下去看了看，
朋友提示说是不是wood joist间隔太大。拿尺量了一下，4x6的wood joist, 平行的
joist到joist centers有4 feet。同一条joist很长，每隔6 feet会有steel jack支撑
着。Steel jack 就放在一个个水泥做的block pockets上面，连着木头的上端有贴片螺
丝固定，下端就撑着水泥，似乎有一个钉子固定的。屋里头地面都是铺地毯，走路不觉
得bouncing，要是跺脚或者随便跳一跳，就很明显觉得地板下面是空的。
问题：
1.这样的间隔是不是有点太大了？网上查到joist一般是2x6, 2x8, 2x10间隔一般不超
过24inch。由于joist大小不一样，不知道如何跟这个房子的4x6 joist相比较。
2. 这样的steel jack支撑结构是不是不够抗震啊，很有点怕怕的说。

(1) Roof needs to be replaced within 3-5 years [currently it is 16 years old

(2) Siding need to be replaced ASAP ----[major issue]
All the others are cheaper ones.
What can I do? Especially for siding, it is wood-decay fungal rot and my
inspector recommends to replace it with hard-wood right away. My inspector said It is L-P Innerseal Siding composite, which had a class action 7, 8 years. That materials were bad.

floor也是有好几层的，用胶粘在一起，和engineered wood的区别就是top layer很厚
很厚。LZ看到的solid hardwood难道就是一块木板？
而且，made in USA的木地板很少吧，而且都是超贵的，市场上大部分的木地板都是
import的，都是有甲醛的啊，包括import的家具也是用含甲醛的胶的。 |

也在考虑改烧木头。据研究，如果装wood stove, 烧的木头可以免费得到，不过要自己
捡，还要
不断往里装，比较麻烦。装Wood Pellet Stove比较省事，有的能自动添加pellet, 换
成油钱是 1.5/gallon. |
