after i messed with xorg-drv-nvidia and nvidia driver from nvidia website, i
reinstalled f11.
Now i only have xorg-drv-nv. Before i know how to do it safely, i wouldn't
mess them again.
Or i will backup my system before i install them. give me some time. :)
With current nv driver, there is no .xsession-log in my home directory. only
a .xsession-error as following:

不过
(--) VESA(0): Virtual size is 1280x1024 (pitch 1280)
你自己去 xorg.conf 里设成 1440x900 好了
不过这个 VESA driver 硬件加速估计不太行

现在的问题是，在xorg.conf里面没有任何地方定义分辨率，
但是如果我普通用户system-config-display，就可以看到4个分辨率了，1440x900,
800x600,... 我不需要改动啥就可以设宽屏了。
现在我用的是nv。
我的意思是如果我改用nvidia的驱动，尽管我在下面加上Modes "1440x900"，我还是看
不到这个分辨率的选项。所以我觉得xorg不是从这里读分辨率（这可能是以前的做法）

I don't have any experience with ubuntu, but i figured it should be similar
to fedora.
You can use some commandline like apt-get to list *xorg* to find out which
one has intel, or i810 (for fedora9)...

主显示器Xerox XR6-19DW 19寸宽屏
<<副显示器Envision 32寸宽屏（可以不管它）>>
显卡用2个dvi-to-vga转接器接到2个显示器上
系统：fedora 11 x64
问题：
用nv的驱动(fedora11自带的)，主显示器可以显示1440x900的宽屏，用着没问题。但是
没dri，玩3d游戏如wow剧慢无比。据我调查是nv驱动不提供dri.
用nvidia驱动(rpmfusion里的,guide: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204752)，主显示器死活不给宽屏，最高分辨了1024x768。就这个破分辨率都有dri支持，可以玩游戏。
怎么能让nvidia驱动有宽屏支持？
/etc/X11/xorg.conf和log:
nv驱动：其实nv驱动不需要/etc/X11/xorg.con，把这个文件删了都没事。
nvdia驱动：就是用了driver nvidia加 |

access. 前几天给几个 server applying CIS security Benchmark scripts, xorg 立
马 fail 掉，usb/DVD 也被 disable 掉（不能 用liveusb/liveCD boot 去 fix), 但
virtual consoles 都能用。
LZ 的情况是 virtual console 不反应，不知道 stuck 在那一步，可能 sshd 都没起
来，如果屁股兜里没揣着 liveusb, reboot 到 single user mode 还是最简单的了。 |

log and see what is going on.
And try to rename /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart your X11 with the following
two commands:
init 3
init 5
And you might also want to reconfigure your vmware toolbox in the guest os. |

我的系统是RHEL 6.4.
最近在用一个CAE软件，自带 Qt 4.8.3和 VTK 6.0.0库文件，直接executable。启动没
什么问题，GUI里面的help和settings也可用，就是一点“Open”试图打开文件就crash
了。奇怪的是如果从别的机器(Linux or windows) ssh 再运行同样的程序就没有问题
，可以打开文件正常操作。
唯一的屏幕输出错误信息：
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
自己有log，但是没什么用，有没有crash记录没什么不同。
看了系统log，也是一头雾水。

发帖数: 1049 | 24 上个月花了15块钱在ebay adorama买了个E02版本，买回来就直接改了boot loader先检
查优盘有没有操作系统可以启动。
然后在优盘上装了个debian wheezy，于是想看看这个家伙性能究竟怎样就把各种关于
网络的服务和软件都装上了。
像什么samba、minidlna、lighttpd、mysqld、php5、vsftpd、gitolite等等这些装上
稍加配置就能用。然后把imagemagick，gallery3装上看看它处理图片和电影的性能怎
样，感觉还行，当然处理大的照片自然是最慢的了。
过了两天觉得玩得不够尽兴又把postfix、dovecot、squirrelmail这些邮件服务都装上
，让它给我收发邮件，于是给家里的动态IP在freedns上搞了免费域名，设好MX记录，
家里的router装了optware后自动更新IP地址，这样就保证能收邮件了。至于发邮件，
由于ISP已经把家里这个动态IP的网段提交给PBL advisory block list了，有些收邮件
的smtp服务器只要采用了这个PBL就会退回邮件，而gmail等倒不退回，直接扔spam... 阅读全帖 |

startx，应该是直接启动不了X的。因为X11要默认启动一个display－manager。 cat /
etc/X11/default-display-manager,看看里边用的是什么？
检查apt源，保证是官方源先。重新安装 apt-get reinstall lightdm
重新启动机器，看看有什么问题？ |

设置也没多复杂。Ubuntu要设置，最后也还是要回到字符界面。那些图形的东西，基本
上都是很没用的。比如那个xorg，为了特定显卡，还是要手动改。
凭良心说，windows也很稳定了。

可是undock之后，ubuntu还在显示双屏的，为了改变为单屏
需要把xorg.conf修改一下，重新启动xwindows，才能恢复成单屏。
变成双屏也是要重启xwindows。这个太麻烦了。
能不能象windows xp一样的，随时改变扩展方式呢？

我原来的问题是我用X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf就可以启动X，
但是startx这个命令就不行，屏幕一闪就回到控制台了
然后莫名其妙就可以了，也许根我装了twm有关？但是我觉得不应该，即使没wm也应该
能启动X。
当然那个错误还一直在，但不影响启动X。 |

屏幕平时不闪。鼠标滑过时，鼠标下方所有区域都闪个不停。
我过去的 server 也是屏幕时不时就狂闪，也是 RHEL。但是我是远程 text-mode，所
以无所谓。
这次脑残网管把我的 server 给放到了 non-routable subnet 去了，也就是说，不能
ssh 访问。nnd，得等好几天才能纠正。这期间咋办涅？
xorg.conf 把显卡驱动设成了 radeon。看着好像也是唯一正确的了。
难道要自己手装驱动不成？ |
