According to Robert Christy at zarya.info, the Yaogan satellites are imaging
satellites “with a government or military purpose. Some seem to carry
optical payloads and others carry radar. There are also some launches into
orbits very like the US NOSS satellites.” |

shown. The approximate time of the incident (2/4/10 at 6:49 UTC) was
determined by “backtracking” the pieces. The fact that the debris and the
remainder of the satellite do not exactly “match up” indicates errors
associated with the orbital measurements.
Yaogan 1, a Chinese Earth Observation Satellite, erupted into multiple

missile (ASBM) called DF-21D, with a maximum range exceeding 1,450
kilometres (900 mi), according to the U.S. National Air and Space
Intelligence Center. The Intelligence Center did not believe it was deployed

targetting is around 20 to 30 km. This can be improved to 2 to 3 km with
improved algorithm. OTH radar can work with the recon satellites to provide
more accurate targeting info.
