Florin Teodorescu, Bartosz Paliswiat and I climbed Mount Rainier via the
hardly travelled Tahoma Glacier, spent the third night on summit and came
down via the popular Disappointment Cleaver route. This easily is the best

We registered for the climb at Longmire Information Center shortly after 10:
00am. The climbing ranger told us that there had been no teams reaching the
summit via Tahoma Glacier this season. In fact there were only three teams
that had registered for such a climb. One went on 5/17 and only reached

After only a few hours of sleep, I was awaken by the alarm at 5:00am. After
getting up, breaking the camp, melting snow for water, boiling hot water for
breakfast, eating and repacking, it wasn’t until 7:30am before we got
going again. We put on the crampons and roped up. I led.

As planned, we all woke up at 2:30am. It was still dark. We quickly got
dressed, broke our camp, repacked, roped up and were ready to go. Quick was
a relative term. It still took us nearly two hours to do that. We started to

Lessons learned:
1. Should have taken snowshoes on this trip. It would have saved us a lot of
time on day 2.
2. Always start early. 7:30am start time on day 2 is too late.
3. Leader should have all gears handy when travelling through technical
terrains. I should have carried at least 2 pickets and all ice screws and

30+磅吧。
早上8：29出发， 10：39到3.75mile.
挺高兴的， 因为比上周快了8分钟。
雪没多少了，快到3.5mile才路上铺的都是。但难走了。
大家踏实在的地方， 表面一层冰，加上今天的破纪录高温， 又有一层水， 超滑。
大家没太踏实在的地方，高温化的快，一踩一个坑， 很烦。
有些地方, trail 露出了一些。但是不够宽。 看见好多滑的影迹。
幸亏去的早 （不和zd8848比），下山时已是热的难受了。
SQL你明天去的话， crampon可以不用， 不过可以装着凑重量。
Suncream 是必须了。我涂了3次。
Camera（not cell phone camera)一定了。 我上去看到rainier在蓝天群山中，后悔的
很。
去trail的路上在under construction, just next to the river. So it may take a
little longer to drive to trail head.
river 里水比以往多了好多好多。 听广播说，这周末因为破纪录高温，有很大的flood

, Olympic NP, Banff NP及周边。有点犹豫要不要去Glacier NP，要说看冰川，光看不

7.17-21 Wonderland Trail, Mt. Rainier。有点犹豫是花上五六天在Rainier呢，还是

发帖数: 2636 | 30 Emmons Glacier是Mt. Rainier第二popular的路线。和最popular的DC路线比起来，高
差更大，尤其登顶距离长。DC要爬两个大碎石坡，坡度在35度左右，穿着冰爪爬比较郁
闷，有被落石砸到的危险；在第二个碎石坡之前和之后各要横切明显的冰崩区，两个地
方几乎每天下午都崩。相比之下Emmons Glacier对体力要求更高，但比DC安全，只有几
十米的的碎石坡，没看到明显的冰崩区。
三月份zd发起这次活动的时候，就提出了对队员要求要能够4.5小时负重上Camp Muir，
报名的时候也不太自信zd是不是肯带我。身在midwest，之后的四个月里一直跑坡和跟
着track club跑interval。看了一些登山训练的知识，最好的练习是负重爬山/爬楼梯
。如果没有条件，就要把跑步机调到15%跑坡每周1-2次。此外每周一次interval，增加
VO2 max和血红细胞的密度，以及对高海拔的适应能力。每个周末一次10-12 mi的long
run，加强耐力。

Bartosz and I climbed Dragontail via Serpentine Arete on 8/2/2008. It's a 16
-pitch route covering about 2000 vertical feet. It has one or two 5.8
pitches, 3-4 5.7 pitches, a couple of 5.5-5.6 pitches and 8 low 5th class or
4th class pitches.
Our plan is to do a one-day climb. We started from Stuart Lake trailhead at
3:00am and reached the fork of Stuart Lake and Colchuck Lake in 50 minutes.

版上有Rainier DC和Emmons Glacier的report，google一下还有更多。这两条是
Rainier最简单，仅有的non-technical路线。zd8848贴过Rainier technical路线
的report，怎么可能得出"不会再难"的结论。。。
光是攀登路线的长度，和对裂缝救援，滑坠制动，结组的要求，都不一样。而且
Rainier你要走DC的话每天都rock/ice fall，到时间不能登顶就必须返回，对体力要求
不低 |

我没啥好写的，搭个车随便流水帐一下吧。第一次跑HM，一直有点紧张，因为早就知道
坡多，天气又比较冷，从来没race过这么长，对pace和体力分配不大有把握。赛前给自
己定的目标是1:45之内，策略是前10K按8:00的pace跑，后半程all out。事后证明比我
想象中坡还要多，不过天气比我想象中暖和一些，36度也没觉得冷，穿了tights, 长袖
，加一件非常薄的防风的vest，有点多余。昨天晚上一直在下雨，路面很湿，但是没积
水。出发的时候对人群和找parking的难度低估了，导致出发太靠后，2:00的pace都在
我前面一大截，1:45的pacer压根就没影。前2迈一直在人群中穿插。不过也好，我前面
总喜欢蹿的太快，压一压我的pace。
出发在space needle旁边，一出发就开始上坡，接着就rolling hill了2迈，然后上了
I90 express lane，当时的感觉就是，MD，开车的时候怎么没觉得这么陡啊。5K的时候

Bartosz and I climbed Dragontail via Serpentine Arete on 8/2/2008. It's a 16
-pitch route covering about 2000 vertical feet. It has one or two 5.8
pitches, 3-4 5.7 pitches, a couple of 5.5-5.6 pitches and 8 low 5th class or
4th class pitches.
