is Samsung or LG? Samsung doesn't have the IPS technology or

seems it is making in a new fab or retooled fab.
but claiming the fab is built for iphone 4 is kind of funny.
but you may be right, gen4 use really small substrate therefore
might produce only 1/10 or less on a gen8 fab.
in era of gen10, gen4 is more like a R&D pilot line and
hard to claim it as something like state-of-art thing.

OLED yield and lifetime still a long standing issue.
even though 3* is really good at QC, it will be still big headache.
OLED or not will be more a marketing/business decision rather
then technology decision.

Probably not. Apple emphazie on usability of features that they decided to
put into iPhone or any product, as much as possible.
For example, the touch screen has to work perfectly.
And because it is a phone that people use outside often, it has to be
readable under bright light outdoors. OLED is only starting to address
direct sunlight issues.
It is also said that OLED such as in Zune doesn't save power unless the UI
is mostly black and dark.
but of course limited OLED production is also an important factor.
iPhone is overall an superior product while it's selling for basically the
same price as the other competitors. Apple's tradition is to keep certain
margin, and OLED will also cost too much, if Apple wants to keep the margin,
then pricing will be less appealing.
